You're playing this game for 10 days now, so here is the non-troll-answer:

There is no BEST ship in EVE. Just a "better in that situation, then other"

A long time the Rifter was a really good choise for solo frig-pvp. Since the frigate-buff the Merlin and Incursus are in line with the Rifter, or a little bit better. (if you compare the new fits with older fittings for the Rifter)

You either PVP fit your ship, or PVE fit your ship. Both does not work. When you are aiming for a PVP ship you usually have mods to support your capacitor temporarily as well as increased damage or tanking abilities. Whereas when you are aiming for a PVE ship you would rather have capacitor stability and a good tank/good dps. It's always one or the other.

Rule of thumb, the ultimate ship is usually the one blowing you up when you thought you had the ultimate ship.

I don't think there is a ship which will cause everybody run once seen on dscan or grid. Some ships are gank magnets (lone shiny T3 or BS in lowsec), some are not worth the effort of ganking unless you just happen to land on them or you really really wanna gank anything just for sake of getting a kill. If locals can't take you solo they will fleet up and get you in group.

Best gank protection is dscan and BM.

I'd just like to add, however, that there is no truly black or white in Eve.

While it is true most ships can only be PvP or PvE fitted, the fact is is that there are one or two which can be fit to suit both purposes at once. The best example of this I have had experience with (though I'm sure there are others) is the Sacrilege, which is one of the few ships in the game which can actually active tank in PvP and still be a force to reckon with. It is also useful in mission running, particularly Level 3 missions. So you can feel a level of security knowing that you can at least put up a good fight should you get attacked by a lone pirate.

However, what everyone is saying is correct, it's not a matter of, "OMG! I just saw (insert ship name here) on DScan! I will NOT go and attack that! There's no way I'll ever destroy that. RUN AWAY!!!" It's more along the lines of, "Ooh, a/an (insert ship name here). I can't take that in my current ship, but I bet you I could take it in my (insert name here)..."

Nothing is written in stone in Eve except that everyone loses ships eventually. That's why those amazingly rare (and very powerful, it should be noted) specialty ships are never brought out of station, because they immediately become a target and will blow up pretty quickly.

Just fit to the purpose you're currently doing and never fly a ship you cannot afford to replace!!!! X

The all-time, unrivaled, solo PVP ship?

Well, I hear CCP has a few, but no player will ever fly one. Fact is, every ship in Eve has a counter. Nothing is unkillable. You will lose your ship at some point, just as we all have. ;)

Oh, and bigger isn't always better.

The good thing about eve is there is no unrivaled pvp master

Every ship has its strength ans weaknesses. It all depends on what you want to do. You can go buy a Tengu and I could kill you in an Merlin.

This is probably the biggest misconception among new players who are used to other MMO's that have that end-all-be-all solo-pwn-boat item.

If you go looking for this in EVE, you will be greatly disappointed.

FC, what do?

And, who knows if you really do, or not?

Mallers. Always a trap, even when they aren't.™

There is no "ultimate ship" in eve. Ships in EVE are like tools; you always use the right tool for the job. Knowing how to use a lot of tools, and more importantly, which tool to use in a specific situation, is the hallmark of true EVE experience.

This and over again this ;)

Playing an MMO solo is playing with both hands tied behind you.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

I'll Quote Clear Skies:

"As ever it gets harder to prepare for all the possibilities out there, the universe has changed since we got started and the number of specialized ships keeps on increasing, You know I cant prepare for all eventualities in a one on one engagement these days."

~ Charlie Fodder.

CCP Has made a valiant effort at changing things so one ship isnt uber pwnage in all situations. After the winter expansion it will be more of this. Drakes used to be the back bone of null sec blobs. With heavy missiles and drakes getting whacked with the nerf bat that will no longer be the case.

The best pvper has a multitude of ships fitted for a variety of situations. The terms of the engagement should decide which ship you use.

Its the big thing trading and pvp have in common. I cant tell you what to trade as the market is always shifting and good advice today might be bad advice tomorrow. Just as I cant tell you what ship to fly because if the engagement changes the best ship in that situation changes also.

Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.com I Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers.
