Native Damage Reduction Vs. Damage types

I have a couple questions about native damage reduction on shields and armor.

I recall reading about a native damage reduction that applies before resistances for the different damage types when I played eve about 3 years ago. I am fairly certain this information was from a reliable source, I thought it was the wiki yet there's no mention of this mechanic that I could find there.

So, is there native damage reduction applies before resistances?

Was there at some point native damage reduction applies before resistances, and this was changed in a patch or something?

I would love to see some discussion about this and would really love some answers to my questions. Currently, the corp I am in believes thermal to be the absolute best damage type due to being effective vs shields and decent vs armor. I recall when doing some math in teh past with native damage reduction this wasn't so much the case.

BTW i did google this for about an hour, also searched the forums as best I could. I'm sure this has been discussed before but I could not find any reliable information about it. The most I could find was this http://www.heimdall-guild.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1188.

I think native damage reduction is to do with the specific shield/armour damage stats on various types of ammo.

Sounds like a misconception of yours. There is only one type damage reduction, that from resistances.

i just read that linked post and i must say that it is useless information.

Basically saying "Native Damage Reduction " = initial ships shield and armor resistances.

Don't make any use of Base shield/armor Damage information from ammo info window.

Usual statistics for ships that you can fly are different than npc stats. Normal EM reststance are 50% for armor (and are used in Base Armor Damage calculation) and are highest, but if you plan to shoot Amarr NPC (which are armor tanked) you actually should shoot with EM because "Native Damage Reduction" doesn't have anything to do with NPC.

I would just forget about it and look at actual ship stats or npc stats (http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/npc_ships.php)

Does the reduction in damage from range falloff (for turrets) and speed/sig (for missiles) get applied to the base weapon stats before resistances ??

eg a turret with 1000 alpha gets a hit on a target at max optimal + falloff which reduces it's damage by 50% = 500 points. This then gets modified byt the targets resists (say omni 50%) so applied damage to the target would be 250. ??

very simplified eg but should demo what I'm thinking ....... maybe.....i'm tired....

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.

no, just a very basic calculation of given ammo vs standard shield/ammo resistances
