I can no longer live without a desktop and despite the imac refresh being imminent (maybe even while I'm typing) I need to buy one TODAY. I will be using it mainly for audio but, of course, I will need to play eve with max settings (or very close to it).

I've searched but have found no specific answers as to how well the latest imac with 512MB 6770m can run eve. With the refresh so soon I'm not prepared to spend on the 1gb card just for eve.

*I am only concerned with running a single client and I am only interested in answers from those people using this gen of imac with the 512mb card.*

If anyone replies, thanks in advance.

(I thought there was a sticky for mac performance but haven't found it)

You need the 1gb IMO. Your really shorting the machine if you don't. You didm;t mention which model, but the 27" runs at such a high resolution that even 1gb is questionable if your going to do full screen gaming.

Your performance for Eve will depend on what you use it for. You should be fine, but worst case be prepared to make a bootcamp partition and boot into windows. The mac client has been very frustrating lately.

Thanks space l0rd. I got the 2011 i5 @3.1 with 1gb card for 1k so won't be crying even if they get a refresh this week. This will do for now.

I'm prepared for a win partition for gaming if need be.
