American commenters disappoint me... how did none of those armed-to-the-teeth rednecks notice that they're firing blank rounds?

Because blank rounds don't have that much muzzle blast

There are no BFAs on the muzzles of those weapons

Blank rounds aren't anywhere near that loud

Blanks also don't have any noticeable recoil

Also that's normal for weddings/parties in saudi arabia

It occurs to me now to ask why is it that middle eastern weddings have a habit of being shot at by NATO aircraft.... Cry

Can an automatic rifle even operate using blank rounds? Is there enough recoil to make the ammo feed mechanism work? I man, I'm sure all the automatic weapons in Hollywood aren't firing real slugs. But are they using standard paper-wad blank rounds, or something else that provides more recoil. Just somethng I've always wondered about....

AFAIK they have a few options. Either use guns which are designed to only fire blanks and can't even be used with live ammo, use special movie ammunition on a live gun and/or just put a BFA on the gun to help hold the gas pressure and allow the mechanism to cycle.

I guess you've never fired an automatic rifle, have you? If you had, you would know that blanks don't have that much of a muzzle flash and the recoil is almost non-existent. Also, blanks sound about as loud as a pop gun.

Watch the video again.

And yes, you can use blanks in automatic rifles, there's just enough recoil. We did when training with MILES gear.

Note to self: never go to a Saudi wedding.

"A US study found that 118 people were treated for random "falling-bullet injuries" at one Los Angeles medical centre between 1985 and 1992, resulting in the deaths of 38."
