Why is EVE space so cloudy?

OP you should pick up a copy of freelancer and grab a few mods. Whole systems covered in green fog and barren asteroids everywhere. And my favorite.. systems that do 1% or more hull damage per minute. The systems in eve feel like Eye candy rather than art Imitating real life. And I like it that way.

Actually, I think the refraction of light off the particles in space would determine their color.

Well my point was that many of the first pictures of nebula weren't the actual colour of the cloud itself because they were the radio waves.

In any case, I think the ones in Eve look pretty good. My favourite before was the Eagle nebula ( http://www.skyimagelab.com/m16eanega.html ), Gallente space sort of remind me of it.

The Interstellar Medium

We often think of space as being "empty," and it is indeed a superb vacuum by earthly standards. However, space is not completely empty. We find at least some gas and dust everywhere we look. We refer to the gas and dust that fill the spaces between stars within a galaxy as the interstellar medium.

The gas between the stars is composed mostly of hydrogen and helium. Recall that hydrogen and helium were the only chemical elements (aside from trace amounts of lithium) that were produced in the Big Bang. The very first stars must have been born from clouds made only of hydrogen and helium gas. Since that time, stars have transformed a small fraction of the original hydrogen and helium into heavier elements. Measurements have shown that the interstellar medium consists (by mass) of 70% hydrogen, 28% helium, and 2% heavier elements.

Virtually all the gas between stars in the Milky Way Galaxy has approximately the same chemical composition. However, the gas of the interstellar medium can look very different from place to place because of huge differences in temperature and density. Some clouds are extremely hot but low in density, some are cold and relatively dense, and others have conditions in between.

Space has nebulas, sure, but unless the entire EvE galaxy is itself IN a giant nebula there shouldn't be THIS many.

With hundreds of billions of galaxies and many more solar systems and just imagining the vastness of the universe and space I am sure there could be many, many, many more nebulae. We just happen to be in a cluster of nearby nebulae.

You're giving the nebulae in the background too much credit by calling them "dynamic".

All that happens is you see the same nebula over and over again until you get to a new constellation, or region, I forget which, and it suddenly switches after you jump over to the next constellation/region over to "between the two or three" nebulae. Then you do a few more jumps with the same exact two or three nebulae in the distance and then suddenly end up with just one of the nebulae..

The reasoning is that the EVE is an extremely dense,active star cluster/nebula. Consider that the closest extra-solar star to Earth is Alpha Centauri, which is more than 4 light years away. In EVE (particularly high sec) you can have several dozen stars within the same radius. It comes as no surprise, then, that the EVE cluster is so "cloudy".
