So I ask this question more so out of curiosity then anything.

Have any of you been affected by events in real life from your eve addiction?

No.

Such as wife leaving you etc, losing your job from taking to much time off work to play eve?

No, because I'm not a loser.

My weekends are spent building a photography business to get me out of IT Hell. Sorry to disappoint.

hrm since this game keeps me from going apesht IRL, I guess... yes? Actually any game would do that :P but Eve is definitely one of the top 3. Eve is handsdown the best for providing entertainment in my fractured daily spaces, which is hard to do in other MMOs. Most are not very good with 'drop everything the kid needs a change', 'animals need fed', 'lunch prepared', etc. So it's really ideal for a SAHM :) (Stay at home mom)

Honestly, yes. Eve has impacted my life a huge deal.

First, it made it possible to meet people half way around the world that I wouldn't have other wise. My three best mates who are now family to me, I met through EVE and even visited one for over five weeks this year in Canada and it was a real blast! The same person, I even started a business with in 2007.

Eve, and more importantly, the people in it, have helped me through some really trying times and I will forever be grateful for that and in a large way, contributed to which path I took in my career and in my life. Even though by reading the EVE forums these days, you'd think we were just a bunch of whining immature idiots, but the truth is, the most intellectual and smart people I know, I know through EVE.

While I don't think EVE in particular has have a negative impact on my life. Not counting a single burnout that lasted more than a year.
However the internet and computer games in general, have had an overall negative impact on my life.
Not in the losing wife/kids sense, but still it have perhaps distanced me a little, and sometime I catch myself playing EVE for an extended evening, while I could have been using that time with the family.

Then again, I get a lot of positive things from EVE, balancing these against each other is complicated.

No... not yet... You have to make "them" paint the entire department pink and then you're entitled to present that comment again.

I've quit jobs I've had over the years six times in order to go to FanFest, or do Alliance Tournaments when holidays have been refused by companies I've worked for. Four of the six times they have called me up when I've gotten home and sheepishly asked me if I'll come back to work.

Coupled with that, I met and got together with the most awesome woman in the world playing Eve, who's a hardcore gamer, is gorgeous, kicks ass and has an awesome sense of humour.

I've also had the opportunity to meet epic people, get involved with epic projects and organise awesome Eve player gatherings in London, one of which is occuring next week and has a 150+ attendance list plus a dozen devs showing up.

Eve has also given me an appreciation of foreign culture, let me see the world from hundreds of different perspectives, opened my eyes to differences in custom from country to country and proved to me that Iceland is the most awesome country on Earth.

When I started playing Eve I was 18 years old and was a shy, quiet engineering student who wouldn't even consider speaking out with opinion and was scared to even make a presentation in front of ten fellow trainees.

A little under 10 years later I've been on stage in front of thousands of people at multiple FanFests, as well as being watched on webcast by tens of thousands. I've been a part of live broadcasts watched by tens of thousands when working on Eve-TV and have hosted player gatherings and stood up and spoke in front of hundreds of people in the same room.

I can't even remember how many countries I've flown and driven to, organising and attending player gatherings and getting to know Eve players.

Eve has had a massive positive influence on my life, and the only way you let your life get destroyed by any video game is if you're too thick headed and bone idle to keep control of it, take care of yourself, do things right and make the right calls at the right time.

In these cases it's not the game that's to blame, it's the lethargic, lazy, thick skulled idiot behind the keyboard and/or controller.

I follow the sales figures of Iceland's only hardware store and as they haven't spiked because of any huge pink paint order lately, your office can't be pink... Unless you have stealth manufactured your own pink paint or used pink nail polish to paint it as "project forever".... and I have to clarify that filling all the empty wall surfaces with Hello Kitty stickers doesn't count as "pink paint" - not even if they carry "I love CCP"-hearts in their hands and look really cute.

edit:
Btw now you should know what you want for xmas .)

From when I first started playing EVE I turned a lot of on-line friends into RL friends through alliance meet ups in the UK and a few FanFests. Had a couple of corpies visit and stay with me a few times and spent a few months travelling around Europe and the US visiting friends I made through EVE Online.

I met my husband at FanFest, moved to Iceland, got a job at CCP and had several friends who I made through EVE at my wedding <3

I would say EVE has had quite a big impact on my life the last few years Lol

That is impressive.

I guess it depends on the person a lot. Come to think of it, there certainly are a lot of people out there who, say with one meetup gathering or going through the wrong door, will end up in an alley with a needle stuck in their arm (probably around 72 hoursLol ).

People who tend to fall from grace should know their limitations and avoid stuff.

I have met several friends that i'm sure i will have for life through eve. They range from the US through europe to asia and i have even managed to visit 3 or 4 of them in their home towns for a few beers. Even crashing on their sofas and planning big nights out! I stayed with one guy in Laramie and another in Cardiff. They have since left the game but i still keep in touch and on the 3rd im going to see 2 mates i met through eve in cardiff.

My GF hates me playing internet spaceships, but she just agreed to be my wife so things can't be that bad!!

If you want a real answer to this questions ask Chribba.

I once had a girlfriend who would say that, then one night I found her with another woman. Shocked

So you found her with another woman, and did not even ask to watch or join in?

My old girlfriend told me about her hot friend who liked groups. So I proposed a threesome. Answer: "How about you just do a onesome?"Sad
