I want to play this game, but I don't want to have to play it a ton. I've read about some corps requiring members to play 5+ hours a day. Can I still be good in this game if I don't do that? Also how social is this game? I want to play partly to be more social while I'm at home, because I get bored easily. Back years ago when I played WoW I had fun getting to know my guild mates, and some of my best memories are just sitting around and talking. Thanks!

The greatest thing about EVE....
The skill queue.
Your character will train up while you are not playing...
So you can play as much or as little,,,just keep in mind that of course, the more you put into EVE, the more you get in return.

I rarely play, maybe like 1-2 hours a day IF I play at all during the weekdays due to so much work...but I'm bad so....lol

This game is quite social...you can't trust anyone, but you need others to optimize.

More seriously, you'll hear from many that this game is best played with others (joining a corp). I would agree with this, and whilst there *are* some corps who would perhaps require a hefty time investment from you to remain, there are others (and I've experienced a fair few) where your corpies will understand that you have a life outside of the intornut.

So in short, this game is all about the social, find a corp, they're not all full of angry russians.

Its funny you mention Russians actually. I noticed that player count tends to peak around midnight in Europe. I'm from the States, so will this effect anything?

Real Life versus EVE

Based on many testimonials... you can kiss your "real life" goodbye. *demonic laughter* Twisted

There are still plenty of corps with strong US tz activity, just have a deeks (casual look) about, you'll find something.

Actually there is a strong Transylvanian player base, would explain the peak at midnight Euro TZ

The worse thing about EveEvil

The skill queue
though skills train passively, eventually they drive you mad due to their incredibly long training duration and there is nothing you can do about it.

But I digress. If you are looking for a social game this game has it, it doesn't have much to offer for the lone wolf type game. Go to the recruiting forums and check some corps out, find out if you like high or low/null sec and check the requirements. Some seem very casual friendly.

When you find it overly tedious to train, it often means you shouldn't be training that yet.

I would not recommend joining a corp that requires minimum amount of playtime. This is a game after all. That being said, depending on what you want to do, that will determine the amount of time you have to spend playing the game. Some things only take a few minutes, such as updating your skill queue, maybe do a mission or two (L1 or L2 at least), maybe do some station trading. Other things take a while, like mining a bunch of ore, hauling stuff around, or fleet ops. It's all dependent upon what you want to do.

Don't think that's the case, having no problems, I'm 4's 5's in things of interest, 5's are in fitting skills mostly. Really likely behind the curve on getting T2guns, but 50 days(well 44 now as sharpshooter V is almost done), well, that's like planning making a sandwich for next week. Looking at T3 ships, over two months for ship and then support modules. Maybe I'll just buy a toon to try something new, but that's an odd game mechanic to avoid the grind. Bit in the doldrums of progression at the moment. Honestly I wish I could grind this faster by doing something.

I have been in a lot of corps and I have never, even once, seen anything like this minimum hours per day thing. I cannot even imagine a corp saying something that ridiculous. Obviously any corporation wants active members, but none have silly conditions like this.

This game, like any MMO, is more fun when you have people you are playing with. Even people who play solo a lot of the time generally have lots of friends they talk to. Most Eve corporations have voice as well, and people talk on there. So yes, Eve is a very social game.

No. There are players on at all hours. But before you join a corp you should see when they are active.

never been part of or even seen a corp that has 'required play time per day'.

The amount of time you need to invest into EVE really depends on what your ambitions are within the context of the game, EVE being an open ended sandbox as it is. If you just want to play a few hours a week, just join a casual corp/alliance, shell out a plex every few months and screw around in rifters and PVP all day. If your goal is to 'own the pimpest ship ever', that goal might require some poopsocking.

I'm a casual player. I work 5 12hr days AND I'm a partner in a small business that takes up my nights and weekends. As you can imagine I don't play often enough to take part in the null sec sov corps that have mandatory time commitmens (fake sad face). Shop around, there are lots of relaxed corps for carebears, 1337 pvr's & everything in between. Also, the skill q rocks

I think that the only thing that REQUIRES 5 hours are CTAs. And those are soooooo boring that you will never want to partecipate.

East coast USA has a decent contingent.mwest coast USA seems to be mostly dead (even quieter than Australian East coast).

Join up, sit in rookie chat for a while and make friends. Just be aware that EVE will soak up as much time as you let it. Just be careful about managing your time.
