The Ore Thief Career

With the changes on Mining Barges, the Ore Thief career is on the brink of extinction. "Professional ore thieving" was alot of fun, it was something that made EvE unique.

Why did CCP changed this?

miner sub money > ore thief sub money?

Productive miners keep prices down thereby allowing newbies and the poor more opportunity to have fun?

Ore thievery, plus the general hijinks in high-sec kept reminding everyone just how clumsy the high-sec aggression mechanics were.

Solving the miners v. griefers problem reduced 90% of the whining on the forums.

It was a controlled experiment to see how the griefers would adapt. See James 315 and http://www.minerbumping.com/ What? Did you not notice that CCP contracted out for a university conducted sociological study?

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

I used to do this, back when I thought hunting belts for 20-30 minutes at a time for an odd two-million ISK worth of ore was actually not an astonishingly small amount of money for my effort.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

There was no such thing about stealing ore to make money, the only reason people stole ore was to p*** off miners and make them shoot at you so you can kill them with your more powerful ship for some sense of self gratitude.

this has not changed 1 bit, its just you are not allowed to be the schoolyard bully anymore.

Instead of you robbing small children for their allowances, grow a pair, then actually shoot at something that can shoot back.

If they won't give you their ore in cans anymore....mine it from their hulls.

Problem solved.

Butthurt detected.

Take your game down to lowsec and see how far you get griefing people who will shoot back. It's a much bigger challenge than trying to get aggro out of unarmed mining vessels.

first - not a noob
second - not an alt

if your going to troll get your facts straight first

OP is upset that his gameplay style has been affected now that noobs and miners can hide their ore from him. What I am saying is that yes the "easy" stealing and griefing days are over, its time to adapt. Isn't that was EvE is all about...adapting and trying out new play styles and tactics.

This being Eve, I'm reasonably certain that there are still some idiots out there who wont learn and are still jet-can mining.
Just gotta find them...

I found that having my ore stolen to be a learning experience.

I learned that my dreaded hobgoblins don't do anything againts PVP cruiser hulls
I learned that PVP cruiser hulls will chew threw my hulk in a mind bogglingly short time once I aggro
I learned that I shouldn't react to flippers
I learned that I should fit a tank to try and survive the idiot suicide gankers
I learned that the non-idiot suicide gankers are going to kill you regardless

Adapt or die

There is no such thing as a fair fight...

If your fighting fair you have automatically put yourself at a disadvantage.

Actually, you'd be surprised just how often the miners WILL shoot back, when properly motivated. Smile

just so some understand as an official carebear I have been blown up by ignorance before in my fancy nighthawk by roaming war targets (this was my first experience from a major alliance being war dec by others) how war dec mechanics work, all I was doing was missioning and then suddenly getting locked and warp scrambled in hi sec without Concord assistance once I was done for they stopped then try to ransom me, huh, I knew enough that they wouldn't honor this so I started shooting again knowing I would lose, no crying, no forum whining, so no not ALL carebears are the same, I made a mistake I learned, but no free luncheon work for your targets faπy stop being lazy.

How does Ore theft raise prices? The same amount of Ore makes it to market.

As for adaption, I thought that was the point of the Crucible changes to insurance payouts. See if gankers would adapt to increased ganking costs. When they did, CCP nerfed the adaption (even though they had just introduced a ship designed to use the adaption*). Now that miners showed that they cannot adapt to any negative situation ever, CCP threw in the towel for them, and in the spirit of a third grade sports team, gave everyone a prize for "participating" in order to shut them the hell up so CCP can enjoy his goddamn cardboard pizza in peace.

OP what are you talking about? I nabbed 2 miners jet can mining this week alone. Sure I didn't get anything above 3 million for my thievery, But I had loads of fun doing it. You just need to be on the hunt for Idiots. Trust me there are plenty out there and I think most of us will admit to being one at some point in our EVE career.

good hunting! Twisted

Hmm the majority of ore thieving was done to players that did not yet have mining barges trained. IE. It was the guys using cruisers and jet canning into them or the mining frigate and jet canning. And guess what CCP did not make any changes to them or that early part of the mining career. It is still the same. And they are still jet canning.

^^ this

wtf would this even be called a "career"?

although.

only 1 week into eve 3 years back, my first pvp kill was baiting a can griefer and 2 of us played a tango on his cane ass. sweetest kill we ever did...

so can stealing does have a use - if only to teach the miner how to stay calm, think and work the trap Bear
