Have been travelling on several other market hubs but when i entered in Jita.. wow.

The scamming is absurd. Buying plex for 350mil, only to find out you'll also give a plex along with 350 mil... or buying 2plex for 1.2b only to find out he'll only pay1.2m

wtf?

I'm all into the player-run thing but i think this is over the top. I've read many scams in the past.. like ponzi schemes turned bad or corporation thievery. Those are classy. It takes effort.

But this? Pure absurd. There's no merit in this. People are deliberatly, in-your-face, taking advantage of a game mechanic in order to trick you into basically giving away your wealth, and more.

I'm all for regulating this type of activity. Just as you get flagged for killing people on secure areas, so should this behavior be criminalized. How to punish them? well.. just out of my head

Once a player gets flagged for promoting scams he should be flagged, and all his transactions would require manual verification. That should teach the pricks.

simple solution ALWAYS read the contract details in detail especially the bottom part you know the part that says ' you will pay' and the 'you will receive' parts
second if it is too good to be true , mostly it isn't true

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

You should read them basicaly to learn what new scamming technique they use. Other purpose? Don't bother. We are talking about Jita right?

New players shouldn't have 350 mil for a plex no? Or am I missing something? So people falling for this are older than the average noob I would hope!

My first 100mil was after a month and spent on a raven which I could not fit yet (Duh!!) not on a plex.

I got scammed because I did not realise there were a few 0s missing in contract for a shinny thing off the LP store in the buy orders (**** happens)

And I still play and love the game

BUT

If you really don't need to have a plex in your cargo to accept a contract for a plex and isk because it take the plex you receive through the contract then that is real crap game design and CCP should fix it or should clearly explain it can occur because I would think that the contract should fail!!

You should not be able to accept a contract that you can not cover on your side prior to clicking the accept button.

Anyhow just my 2 cents

The scammers give e a good laugh every time. Sometimes I tip them a few mil when they get a victim to rage. Blink

See space Therapist if you get scammed, she'll sort you out for a small fee. I'll just tell you to man the **** up and read next time.

New players rarely get scammed, they have nothing worth stealing. The people that get scammed are the ones with hundreds of millions of ISK floating around in their wallets that are looking to make a quick profit by flipping contents of the contract.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I read that I can be whatever and whomever I want in New Eden. I've decided I want to be a vigilante and protect new, naive players who leave the game upon being scammed because they don't enjoy SM simulators and would rather play a game that sports fun gameplay, and is not an exercise in paranoia.

What are the tools available to effectively pvp against permadocked, throwaway scamming spambot alts?

Oh you just said the magic words...
"a game that sports fun gameplay, and is not an exercise in paranoia."
If they want to do this they are obviously wrong here and should play one of the dozens of boring games that support this kind of gameplay.

There are no other sci-fi sandboxes available as of now, and I'm sure the potential customers for a fun sci-fi sandbox that is not an exercise in paranoia far outnumber the people subscribed now to EvE.

But a middle ground is very reachable: by correcting things that make no sense, above all, the unaccountability of characters relative to accounts, and the unaccountability of accounts themselves relative to IP addresses, you could still have the cold harsh universe and a way to effectively retaliate against people you want to hurt ingame.

Hell, it'd even be colder and harsher! Which present subscriber doesn't want that?

And as of now, what ways do I have, should I want to become a vigilante and harass the ingame assets of people using permadocked throwaway alts to spam scams in local?

OP, hun, if anyone gets scammed, its basically because they failed to realize they could have prevented it by reading the WHOLE contract... also, honestly, if it seems like an awsome deal, its probably not. There are all kinds of contract, market and trade scams, and they all have one common feature... they look super sexy and offer alot for a very little.

I think its awsome how ruthless a play environment EvE is, thats one of the reasons I like it so much.

The next time anyone wants to just waste a load of isk, just send it to me, and I promise youll feel better about that than if you think your going to make a "super deal" and then lose it all because you failed to figure out the scam. At least I'll send you a nice note, and I would really be happy because Im basically poor, so poor I cant even get scammed!

Big smile space kitty thinks scams are mean (but a little funny in local when a rage breaks out)

Another Control Freak.
IP addresses you say, surveillance I say.

So without this accounts and character accountability which is complete fascism, tell me how I can hurt ingame assets of those permadocked throwaway spambot scamming alts?

Propose some idea so New Eden can become harsh cruel and full of consequences for them as well.

Once a player gets flagged for promoting scams he should be flagged, and all his transactions would require manual verification. That should teach the pricks.

Let's say, we consider "flagging" persons as scammers: Where are the borders/lines? How should the abuse of the flagging system be prevented? ... Nice idea, but i'd say, it can not be realized without worse collareal damage.

As already stated, a close look into the contracts reveals the scam in most cases very easy. CCP already did propper formating and coloring at the contract description window, which makes checking easy.

I personally decided to ignore "Jita local" chat or similar trade hub chats. Whenever i took a look into it, almost every contract was a attempt to defraud. And concerning the (maybe existing) honest contracts: Unfortunatelly they are trampled to death by the mass of scam in the chat.

TL;DR :
(1) Just ignore trade hub local chat.
(2) Have a close look into every contract.
--> no further programming needed.

What i learned in the last years is, that you cannot solve social problems with technics. And whenever someone managed to build up a successfull obstacle, it would not last very long for the next clever person appearing to bypass it in a way you never thought of. Leave the scammers alone. They provide 'flavor'.

They also provide real life training. I look at everything sales related and the first thing I ask is "Is this a scam?"...and sometimes the answer is yes.

To add a story:

I was in Jita once and along the endless rolls of scam came a link to a contract of an outfitted ship I needed at a great price. The person said "he just wanted to get rid of it/was sick of it".

I looked over the contract and couldn't see anything wrong. I looked at it again and again.

Finally, I accepted it. Guess what happened?

.

.

.

It was legit! I couldn't believe it. There was actually a contract on Jita local that wasn't a scam, wasn't overpriced etc.

To this day I am still in shock.
