Salute…I’d like to get some advice/knowledge from you capsuleer veterans.
Currently I am dual boxing (2 PCs 2 accounts) level 4 combat missions in Caldari space. I have been using a pair of Dominix and it works out “ok”. Lately though I have been experimenting with using one to warp in and pull agro and just tank the room while the second account then warps in with a DPS focused fit to shoot stuff, (5xProto 425s and T2 sentries). This greatly reduces the scrambling between PCs and I seem to get much better DPS as well.

That said I am looking for suggestions on a fit that will turn a Dominix into a towering fortress of DPS absorption. I suspect the tank needs to last about 10 minutes ideally. This ship will not have to do any DPS aside from a single rail turret to get agro and of course token sentries set to assist. An afterburner would be a nice addition for the gate crawls on mish like Worlds Collide. It is also going to be just sitting there so sig and/or active tanking seem to be in order.

I was also contemplating using a battle cruiser like a Myrmidon as that would sig tank the rat battleships better. So, what do you guys think?

P.S. That toon has good cap and fitting skills with LvL5 engineering and mechanical and LvL4 cap skills with T2 tanking module ability. Also has AWU. The rats mostly do Thermal and Kinetic DPS. Thanks.

EDIT: After experimenting I have found using two Domis with the same fit shown further down is the way to go. Please disregard.

Capstable 600dps tank vs therm/kin (50/50), faction is up to you.
All the cap mods are pretty ugly though, you could try cap transferring between ships, but then you lose a gun from your DPS Domi.

5 hardeners, 2 reps and cap rechargers for mids and rigs looks pretty decent. EFT says 1178 DPS tank on Guristas, that might even be enough to pull full room aggro but you'll have to find out for yourself. I'm not testing it.

Personally, if you're looking to "super tank" something you should either use a drake (cheap), rattlesnake, or pony up the cash for a middleground/armor ship like the navy dominix. With a pair of faction LARs it can easily push 1300'ish DPS tanks versus kin/therm opponents and pull a 930'ish DPS "omni" tank with 70.6% / 80.4% x2 / 72.8% resistances. It'll have crap for raw DPS and effective DPS, and unless you either don't want to put guns on it, only use guns for aggro, or use projectiles long-term firing of any weapons can be bad for your tank, but it's there.

Beyond that the hyperion and dominix are probably fairly equally tied for this sort of role. The dominix will do the job fine for rat-specific tanking, but the hyperion will do omni tanking a bit better thanks to having a tanking bonus. The DPS difference will favor the dominix though. The dominix might only do slightly more rDPS than the hyperion in a sentry/railgun configuration, but with sentries having superior tracking and the ability of the dominix to swap out sentries for other drones as warranted the eDPS difference will likely be much higher.

If you're not worried about DPSing in the tank ship, Assault Frigates tank lvl 4s extremely well. Just orbit at 30km and fast enough that the frigates can't catch up with you. You can even use something like an Ishkur with drones to take out the frigates that will be chasing you.

If you want to use a Domi, there are some fits already posted. If you don't have a preference in the ship type, a Rattlesnake has an insane tank if fit right.

Instead of leaving empty highslots on the second dominix you can put a few remote reps and possibly tracking links in the midslots.
Use the turret domi to draw aggro while the second one gives reps, assisted sentries and other support.

Or just use two machariels and lay waste to everything until your eyeballs bleed and the thought of red crosses makes you feel murderous rage. Then realize you could be making five times as much in a wormhole.

No but really, get a navy domi to tank, and don't use dudes bad fit with no highs for aggro and passive hardeners.

Well, I kinda did some testing and ended up back where I started. Basically, I used my Alt in his Domi with 2x T2 LAR and 4x rat specific T2 Active hardeners. It can tank about 430 DPS and if I use like 3xkinetics it gets the resist to almost 90%, so no real problem actually tanking the missions. The problem and confusing mess is trying to keep track of the trigger spawns or having them agro on your drones. I fitted up a Talos with 8x Meta4 Neutrons, a MWD, 2xT2 TComps, TP and 3xMFS and 2xnanos. Put on some hybrid damage rigs and was getting 880DPS on paper. Now I know, “a Talos? What were you thinking”, but it is fast, like 1700m/s fast, puts out good DPS and has the tracking of medium Electrons at IIRC .144. It can also align and warp in a heartbeat and can run everything for almost 4 minutes. If nothing is shooting you it is a pretty good deal and worked wonderfully…right up to the reinforcement spawns or accidently shooting a trigger. Then I would have to warp off, once in 15% structure…ya at 8000eHP I have flown Punishers with more eHP. The problem is it seems CCP has seen us coming with this method and have made it-not easy.

With that knowledge I went back to the drawing board, did a lot of eft warrior and in game testing and found my best and fastest mission eater arrangement is with two Domis fitted exactly the same like this:

4x Proto 425’s
1 solace Large remote rep
1 Drone link aug
---
4x T2 Cap rechargers
1x omni drone link
---
2x T2 Drone Damage mods
2x T2 Mag Field Stabs
1 T2 LAR
2x T2 rat spec hardeners
---
1x Sentry drone damage rig
2x Aux nanos

5x T2 Sentries

With that I get like 650 to 700 DPS EACH and I can use the remote rep to help if one pulls to much agro. I just land and start shooting everything. Melts BS pretty fast and is mission on easy mode although not quite AFK…lol. Downside- each only tank about 250 dps so the remote reps come in handy and they are sssllloowwwwww. Wait…did I say slow because they are slow at 114 m/s. But with BSs what’s a capsuleer to do.

lvl 5 skills its 1409 dps tank against serps, cap stable. **** range with the drones and guns but you said you wanted a tanky set up. If you dont care about cap stability (its overrated) drop some cap rechargers in favour of drone tracking mods. Could swap a recharger for an afterburner as well, etc. The reppers and hardeners are pretty cheap. Downgrade to a T2 fit it tanks 1070 dps cap stable. Still better off just getting a navy domi

Train one up to Rattlesnake and your tank is done.
