There is nothing good with it. Most ppl speak english.

This is so elitist and close minded ! Most people playing the game speak english, because the others cannot play, the game being in english !

Localisation is the best thing that can happen to french community. The only ones to disagree are bitter vet missing the "EVE at 2000 toons" era and selfish elitist who don't want to share their game.

It's easy : localisation => more people => better EVE
=> more french people => even better EVE for french people

Localisation only *add* to the game. Bitter vet and elitist will always be able to keep their game in english and join some elitist US alliance to stay away from their fellow...

Adapt or die work both ways...

From my experience, ppl don't care about the language the game is in aslong as its still readable and not in some weird kyrillic-language. I might be wrong, but CCP had a survey for localization with an option for " I play the game because there is a localized-client ". I bet there aren't many ppl choosing this option. PPL will allways find someone in their language which is able to help out - but different names for different items just makes communicating harder. Along with this, beeing able to cut yourself out of the need to communicate with players not able to speak your language doesn't make the game easier.

I'm in Solar, and while those guys are nice and friendly, some of them doesn't even understand english. While it's good for them to have a russian client (like french would be good for french people), it definately makes it harder to set up things together (which is kinda sad).

While french is an awesome language (I can't speak btw), I doubt the need for it, and the benefits from having a french client. Might be me, but's my meaningless opinion anyway and I really doubt it will change s.th. ;)

the same is true for the german client. In my opinion as a german, the german localization doesn't add good stuff. Only thing it's doing is making it harder to understand help given by other players, guides, Forums etc.

LoL
That's because English/Americans usually love our French accent Big smile
I ran into this several time with incursion : "You sir, are a French ! isn't it ? oh, Bonjour ! comment allez-vous?" (i'm skipping mistakes)
I heard one Dev @fanfest2012 can't remember his name who spoke Frenglish and can't say what he's done in Eve, but he's awesome Big smile

As for Grombutz, Of course it makes comprehension harder, but for those experienced guys, i'm sure you can run your client in English. as for unexperienced ones, make a strong base then learn important translated words.
and for mission runner, i can assure you reading all this interesting pages is a pain where you know it is.

PS : we already have good guides and forums in French for Eve. i started there Cool

When I started playing, what annoyed me the most was reading descriptions (tutorials, misions, weapons, ammo, items descriptions) in english even if, I think, I can read english quite easily.

And I agree with BugraT WarheaD :

More localization means more player added to the base, that can't be bad

I tend to think that the easier it is to learn how to play EVE in the beginning, the more players you'll keep later, after the trial period. And if there's a translation for these players, you'll make them happy.

To minimize the cost of the translation, I am sure lots of french players (like me) would want to help translate item descriptions, missions details, interface, etc...

Then, once we would all think our translation is finished, we could send it to CCP for approval and modifications.

The french players could work all together on this joint work.

I don't know how is the translation is in German but for this "theoretical" French translation, we could just leave some words or terms in english.

After asking some french players about this idea, some of them answered me that they were worried about the fact that some friench players could use the french language, and others the default english language.

They fear that it will be a mess in channels to understand each other..

That's why (I think), the french translation (if there is one) could only be done on missions stories/details, items descriptions (but not necessary all specific terms)...

That's because people in Russia using English client for most part. And those not, are not posting on these forums anyway.

That's only a fear. Warcraft 3 was localized in french, and even I, at 14, was able to to talk with foreign people of french using english client. It's only a matter of learning some few keyword, and anyone able to read the overview is able to do it. There is so many things in EVE more complicated than that it's stupid to believe that can be a problem.

A localization without the module and ship names and all specific terms wouldn't be a localization.

Bonjour mes amis. Please do not bump this thread. We don't solicit localisation requests from the test server feedback forum - it's specifically for things that are on the test server at the moment.
