Why switch servers?

So, if i reading the blog correctly...

Buckingham is where DUST started...and SiSi is where Eve testing has been going on...for a long time.

You then added Dust to SiSi, so they could communicate between games.

After successful communication, the "logical next step" was to make SiSi a Dust exclusive server and move Eve test to the server that was formally dust?

HDD space is a precious commodity on my current PC (laptop), why do you want me to make yet another 18gig copy (still not entirely sure why it has to be that large) of this client so i can run Eve testing for "while the transition is occurring" (how long is that going to be?)

How is it at all logical to take each server and swap them for what they were used for, especially since this transition went soo smooth with nobody having any issues (sarcasm).

I still haven't been able to get my SiSi client to repatch to Bucky. Batting 1,000 again they CCP...Way. To. Go. Unless your goal was fewer dissenting Eve testers....so next fail update you don't have the wave of posts showing you that you were told about all the issues for a whole MONTH before it got pushed to TQ?

Sisi purpose is the same. Nor is it dust exclusive. Yet while dust is on sisi until release, they can't push out weekly EvE updates for winter expansion testing since dust beta can't update nearly that fast. So it stays in a older ver for a stable environment.
So winter expansion testing will be on duality. Buckingham is temporary testing for the next dust update.
You don't need to worry about buckingham. And you can't use the sisi launcher to patch to it because it needs the TQ launcher version. Read the buckingham sticky.

If SiSi is not Dust exclusive, then why can't i log into SiSi with Eve? And as per the nifty little graphthey showed...

http://cdn1.eveonline.com/www/newssystem/media/63392/1/TSNow.png

Eve Test, and Dust Test are two completely separate servers now. Unless i'm interpreting that graph wrong.

Also, the sticky requires a full readthrough while you preform certain fail steps before you can do other steps before you can get it to work. Not exactly ideal in my mind.

Love your tears mate.

Ccp can do the **** they want as you don't pay to play on those servers, ccp just allows it so stop complaining about it.

Thanks

To funnel the EvE side into Bucky for relevant testing.

Why don't you re-read that server blog again.
SiSi had the hardware for Dusts growth. Yet its stuck with a older EvE. And Bucky has better mass-testing hardware than duality.

Just a little hijack from someone also stuck for HD space. I have a TQ install, a Sisi Install, now a Buckingham install and seen posts for mass tests on Duality...

Is it not possible to configure *CCP/Eve as a core library and then make each client run as a separate module, maybe even updating from a single launcher?
Having no computing ability I'll guess there's a major pita about making it so, but it would be so much less cumbersome.

You do not have to make a new installation. What ever install you used for Singularity, consider it the "EVE Test Client". You should simply point that directory to the necessary server where the EVE Launcher tool will always patch to the correct version. Maybe make a couple more shortcuts for this.

This isn't strictly correct - for Buckingham to connect you should copy your TQ install, not your Sisi install, as the Sisi launcher isn't configured to handle Buckingham well so you'll likely get errors (though in some cases it will be fine).

I have ordered Sisi to be placed into VIP mode to funnel players into Buckingham, which is where we need them to be right now.

If I were you, I would delete the Sisi install while Buckingham testing is ongoing, and then delete the Buckingham install when testing resumes on Sisi.

So wait, we will eventually be going back to SIsi? is that correc, because then we are just wasting our time training on buckingham, and not being able to train on Sisi, i dont get why we are getting dicked around, when things were fine on Sisi as it was. Please let me know if what i have said is correct or not cause im mildly curious to why we are getting dicked around soo much

As far as I understand, thing weren't fine. Dust needed more power so it had to be moved to sisi. Because the Dust client can't be patched as often as they would like to patch the eve part, they run the latest eve builds on buckingham.
And I guess because players need to be made aware that they should connect to buckingham for all standard eve testing, they're interrupting normal login so you check what's going on instead of relaying on routine to login.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Admit it OP, you are just annoyed that you will have to assemble and fit all your leet PVP ships again rite?

I patched to Buckingham last night, and it took me less than 20 mins and was simple

Entitled babies complaining about test servers is awesome, please continue

COME AT ME BRO

No, i kept all my ships, well, most of them anyways.

I was just a bit sour after my "hey i'll go test this little thing on SiSi" turned into most of my saturday trying to repatch to Bucky. Count yourself lucky that you were able to patch in under 20 mins.

But remember, as with most things CCP changes, there are usually alot of ppl who it just plain doesn't work for, which requires alot of futzing and changing other things around to get it to work properly. If not, there wouldn't be a sticky devoted to "if you have issues, here is what has helped others so far"...

back to topic, soo, Dust needed more power, b/c Bucky wasn't enough? Yet they shunt Eve to Bucky b/c it has better servers for mass testing? Or did i read that wrong?

Buckingham has enough hardware to run an EVE mass test. Sisi got a large hardware reinforcement when DUST was added to it, so DUST needs to be there.

This is pretty much it in a nutshell. Things weren't fine on Sisi for our needs, so we needed to change things. Mirroring invalidates the theory that it's pointless to train on Buckingham because there will be a move back to Sisi. Mass test SP will be transferrable.
