there should be an easy way to destinguish between an eve player and a dust player. (even when the local is set to compact mode).

Since dust will apparently hit FW first, this will cause a lot of "noise" in our beloved intel tool (sarcasm).

(or replace local with a proper intel tool like a radar or something but thats a bigger issue as we all know)

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I am curious what they plan to do to local, and if they plan to do it when Dust is launched. I've heard they would like to allow Dust players to go in and eliminate local for a system. Or local's equivalent if they choose to replace it with an actual intel channel. I'd prefer to keep local for those who wish to chat, but people don't automatically show up there. Instead replacing with a window or box dedicated to intel.

on SISI dusties simply show up on a handfull of systems. Whatever they are in.. i don't care. All i wanted to say is that under the current game mechanics where local is used as intel tool there should be a clear seperation between eve and dust players.

example:
- a filter to filter them out
- different icon/color whatever

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

UGH IT ATE MY EPIC POST AF:SJDFKSHDFLSJHFD

: ( I'll redo it later.... ;_; but for now here is the super short version ;_;

basically making it so local becomes just a chat channel for trolling and boardcasting public messages. If you dock in a station or say something you pop up on the list. you can only leave the list by jumping out of system.

Local is replaced by a long range scaning tool that updates every 30 seconds. Wether or not someone shows up on this intel list is based on distance from the ship, and the total sif radius of all ships on the same grid. Meaning large gangs of frigs could avoid the detection of larger blobs and when a battle is going on the scanner doesn't care which side your on, you get into a fght, and you should be ready to light up like a christmas light on the player intell channel.

Also the automatic long range scanner would not show direction or ship type. just player names. Meaning if yo want to find out why 200 players just popped up on your scanner and it tells you they are all clumped up somewhere, it's up to you to hunt them down.

and being able to avoid detection would be great for small gangs. But by making it total sig radius of your fleet, a small fleet is determined by not how many ships you bring, but what kind.

A carrier would be easy to spot, it would be like old local chat.

Also high sec should stay the same

I like this idea a lot. I would think any change should be implemented everywhere (high, low, null).

One thing that I would add, is local should have messages visible for a certain time period, and those players that have posted a message are listed, but once that player has no more messages in local, that player disappears from the list. It becomes a communication tool.

I'm not sure what's on Sisi right now... but we have made some changes so the Dust guys show up with blue gradient. They should appear that way in all character lists. You will also be able to hide the Dust guys from the chat channel memberlist, and the counter in the channel tab will only list EVE players for the channels in immediate mode, which local is, but a combined counter for the channels that are in a delayed mode.
In the immediate mode channels you will also have EVE counter and a Dust counter.

I hope that clears things up .

I like this idea with a few amendments:
People hunted by faction navy or CONCORD will show up in local in hi-sec, since they are regarded as enemies of the area in question. In low-sec, FW upgrades can be used to see enemies of the faction (So, militia enlisted in opposing factions). Null-sec should perhaps have something that enabled players to retrieve information, perhaps gate upgrades logging jumpees, intel that can be fetched (By players) or given to people in the system with high enough standings to the owner of the space.
It should be able to invest resources and player effort into having an intel tool (Or access to someone else's intel), but not offer that intel free of charge or effort.

I am slightly concerned that the idea would still make WH delayed local "too normal", but I'm not sure how to solve it if it's even a problem.

Local should be removed as an intel tool, many problems solved; and a few created, but Eve would be better off, in the long run.

Looking at the system on Buckingham right now, it's great (though apparently broken right now but fixed already internally). Not to mention the rest of the changes that have been made to chat.

Was. It's fixed now. Used to have a bug where it would show the same number of DUST marines as there were EVE pilots, but last time I went on Buckingham it seemed to be fixed. Nothing to worry about CCP Karkur, you're already ahead of things. P
