What's interesting about it? I read MMO forums more than is healthy and I've literally not read a single post even mentioning the game.

yeah that is the crude thing about darkfall. the first darkfall... best game i played thus far and the only game where i nearly cried tears even 1.5 years after i began and saying often to myself: man this game gets better even after 1.5 years...

problem was: no advertising from the greek publisher... NONE. nobody knew of the game. it was just mouth to mouth propaganda. when i began playing i couldn't believe that this game is not more wide spread... it felt just like ultima online did for me. the first mmorpg feelings reignited (with an age of 25 then mind you!). i immediatly phoned a friend: DUUUUDE i found ultima online in 3d!

take an axe, hack at a random tree, get some wood etc. sneak up to a player farming, kill him and take his stuff... just do everything you like and the skills will gain as you do stuff...

but i could talk all day. here some darkfall 1 videos... in the hopes darkfall unholy wars (god what a ****** name...) will be at least 20% as good :)

a very good player solo boarding ships... and btw it's not easy to defend a ship as everything is so tight and friendly fire is a big problem.

our clan hamlet got attacked by one of the mightiest clans in darkfall. we outnumbered them 45 to 29 but still nearly lost. epic victory for us :) you can notice the gear difference. the fps controls were incredible... i had a ping of 20... even with 100 players around. oh and the map you see in the beginning. there are 4 islands you can barely see at each corner. and the map is so huge that on the mainland if you travel from the bottom left to the top right with autowalk (not run, as running uses stamina) you need about 4-5 hours i guess... i rode often from the elfcity to the human city for training. riding beeing about 3-4 times as fast then walking and the maincitys of the races were not in the edge of course i still had 25-30 minutes! crazy big map. a bit too big when the player hemorrage began :(

the game failed because of no updates (2 years no updates...) and no advertising... also the grind was a problem for many players. in the beginning skill gain was so rediculously slow that even after 2 years of hardcore playing (without overnight macroing though except swimming for stats :P) i have mastered only a tiny fraction of the skills... i liked that part, many didn't though as if you started later you were at a distinct disadvantage and had to spend literaly years to catch up... i started half a year after launch and i had it also tough but managed just fine... someone starting a year or even later after launch had a really tough time. they changed some things to make it a bit better, but it was still a lot of grind for a lot of players.

some memories of the game haunts me still today and i feel a real sadness in me when i watch these old videos... i had some encounters where i had valuable stuff on me and got attacked... the times i got away fighting or fleeing were so intense and adrenalin filled that i had a pain in my lower back afterwards... i don't know if it was the tension or because i feared for my virtual life as lower back pains can mean that one has existential fear...

eve is much like that but the fps controls let you really run or fight for your life... never saw a mmorpg where player twitch skills had more meaning.

I almost subbed to darkfall back when it was first released, but the release was a massive cluster and the community was unbelievably immature. Huge map and the inclusion of ships was pretty cool in my book, though.

they disabled the free trial. they reduced the cost of darkfall 1 a lot but it barely has any players left. i would wait and join the fight on november the 20th for the sequel :)

It's got 10 year old graphics, so it's never been a thing for me.

darkfall unholy wars will have a graphic update with an updated world. df 1 and df unholy wars are 2 different games.

graphics are not the strong points of the game though. :)

Hmm, so instead of actually updating their original game they're going "well, **** that ****", leave their original customers in the dust and used their cash to create a new & improved version? If that's the case then I'm not interested, while DF itself is very much flawed that's really not a proper way to act in the MMO genre. Kinda like how Funcom ****** up AoC and then immediately started working on a new title, I'm not having any of it.

True to that. Aventurine is probably the worst company in the whole gaming universe... If every greek is like them no wonder they are in financial chaos right now, no kidding. Greek mentality is pushing trough...

Still, they made the best game ever :P

Ginger Magician plays Darkfall!

I'm gonna wait how the release turns out. I've lost all trust in Aventurine, due broken promises and poor communication with playerbase.
Darkfall however gave me one of the best experiences from any MMO I've played, the endless grind and lack of skillcap just made me quit.

Yep. i had many encounters with ginger magician. Most times it ended bad for him though because he was mostly solo while we ran in a group of 2 or 3 players...

his tears were always awesome and after we killed him he would spend the next 2-3 days camping holdings from us where our newbies resided... ah, fun memories :)

i think every darkfall player who knew ginger magician, knows his eve story too :)

i wonder though. was his race in eve also the worst? because in darkfall it sure was... he would have been so much better if he weren't a dwarf... what a shame :(

In EVE race doesn't matter these days, back then it kinda did because of the attributes (many race/bloodlines sucked attrib wise and there was no remapping). For ginger it wouldn't have mattered, if there'd have been a clown race he'd have chosen that as that is what he is.
