Cloaking - some questions

Just bought myself a Prowler and a CovOps cloak. Got 3 days left on level 4 Cloaking training. Thought I'd ask a few questions while I wait.

As I understand it, you can warp while cloaked with a Covert Ops Cloaking Device?

If that's the case, do you stay cloaked during the warp-flight or are you just able to initiate warp from a cloaked state?

And about cloaking in general, something I've not had reason to test yet...while cloaked in a system, can you be found by probes/scanning? Or is it only proximity that breaks a cloak?

Cloaked everywhere when you activate it. It includes the warp flight.

You can't be found by probes/d-scan.
If something is about less than 2500 meters than you when you're cloaked, you'll be decloaked.

Also you can't cloak if somebody/something is locking you, be that rats or players. Just something to remember when planning your move under gate cloak after jumping into welcome party camp.

Thanks for the info. So there's still the issue of not being able to activate the cloak while still under the gate-cloak upon entering a new system.

When you jump into a gate camp, click the warp-to or double click in space to start moving (to break the gate cloak) and immediately hit the F key to activate your cloak. It is best to use the time the gate cloak gives you to look and make sure that there are no ships or objects that might decloak you on your intended course.

Best not to use your mouse to activate your cloak if you are highly caffeinated or your adrenalin is flowing, as it is too easy to double click. If you double click it will activate your cloak and then deactivate your cloak, and when you deactivate your cloak you can’t activated it again for several seconds. I lost a Hound this way a few days ago. Total fail. So learn from my mistake and use the F key to activate your cloak.

You can’t cloak while someone has you locked. You can cloak while they are still trying to lock you. But if you hit the F key to activate your cloak the moment your gate cloak drops, not even an interceptor is going to lock you in time to keep you from cloaking. Their best chance of getting you is to burn fast toward the spot they saw you appear for a moment and hope they get close enough to decloak you.

The mechanic which keeps you from cloaking when locked is for when you decloak to bomb or torpedo someone. Once you drop cloak you can’t recloak for several seconds, and that gives them enough time to lock you. That is why you should have your warpout planned before you engage if you are going for a hit and run.

Just to add to prowler rigs and modules - there are different rig and module choices depending upon where you plan to roam. For hisec, you can get away with expanded cargo holds. For 0.0, think align time and then speed.

and scout. Flying a hauler without one will get you killed if you encounter a single interdicto, and no cloak will help.
