I want to train a new weapon system. I have Tech 2 Auto Cannons and currently do some missions with a Vargur. I was leaning towards Missiles because i prefer shield tanking and also use a Rattlesnake as my long range mission runner. Before I put in the time and complete the training i just some opinions on the better weapons system.

I have lvl 4 hybrids small/medium/large and the same for Lasers/Missiles. I also have T2 heavy drones and currently training T2 sentries. Thanks.

PS: Even though i have skills in Lasers i have never actually used them.

Blasters got really nice with latest balance but if you really look for "in tha face" stuff and shield tanked just do it like every smart gallente pilot does, shield tank, asb, put lots of blasters and MFS+TE on it and go for a blast.

Caldari ships using hubrids will give you strong shield tanks and hybrids range, witch is very nice but will miss the "punch" of Gallente hulls.

Then you have Anglel ships once you've trained gallente/minmatar, they're simply awesome ships to fly.

Lasers, because Scorch. Also you'll find that Lasers are much more effective than projectiles. (Yes I said it. Come at me bro)

Whats the emoticon for "Oh look its that same joke that was dumb the first time I heard it but now its been used every other day of the week for a month and it's just dumb, but it looks like the person using it can't argue against my points and so will just point at the alliance name and laugh" again? I keep forgetting it. here, have some rolling eyes. Roll

I was thinking about a Nightmare but those are Tachs right? I def want T2 Beams before i dip into my saving for the hull. I just put together a T2 Armageddon and when i grab my missions it was Mordus and they have a very high resist to em/therm so not a good mish for my new boat, I tried it anyway and failed to kill anything in a timely matter. I had to clean the place with my Varg. What's a good NPC to see what my new boat can really do?

Now you know how Goons feel when they try to give a serious opinion.

OP I would look into Missiles for the Drake which is always a crowd pleaser except when it comes to why their so many of them and the new rebalance for the Bellicose and Caracal and Rocket Frigates. I got projectiles first and trained Missiles second and I was not regretful.

Lasers if you are a T1 junkie like me my answer a week ago would have been avoid. Now there are 3 good laser Frigates, they are about to introduce the Omen and Maller and hinted that Amarr's stunted Tier 1 and bland Tier 2 might be getting some love by Winter but definitely by Spring.

Gallente Hybrids for small gangs have gotten brutal, I have been using a Thorax a lot more personally. Small Hybrids are very dangerous on brawlers too. With the Thorax / Vexor improvements it is a tough choice.

Now for PvE Amarr you really need high SP and a faction boat to really compete. Cruise Missiles great lazy choice and Gallente are mostly about Sentry Dominix's. I personally picked one Battleship weapon Cruise Missiles and brought all the races to medium first. Here is how I trained T2.

Small and Medium Projectiles. > Heavy Missiles. > Cruise Missiles > Small and Medium Lasers, Small and Medium Hybrids, > Large Projectiles, > Standard Missiles, > Large Lasers. > Large Hybrids. > HAM's. > Standards. > Torpedo's. (Had Meta 4 for a Bomber though.)

sanshas and blood raiders melt pretty well. serpentis and gurista are manageable but phased plasma kills them just as fine if not better. also note: the nightmare is one of the few ships where T2 weapons are not mandatory; faction tachs have better cap use and you don't really need t2 crystals.

I should buy an Ishtar.

@OP I've heard good things from my mission runner friends about T2 Artillery. You could also just skill/save up for a Machariel and win PvE forever.

I already have the skills for a Mach but it just isn't different enough from the Vargur to really justify the purchase of 1. Plus i'm looking for a different experience all together. A Tach Nightmare sound incredible but my eft warrioring is weak in the force and cant even build a 1k dps boat. I was also thinking about picking up a Megathron and trying both blaster and railguns to see of the changes made either better.

Thanks

I fly nightmare on one character and machariel on the other.

I only fit tach's when needed, like mining misappropriation, most of the time my nightmare is beam fit with optimal range tracking computers.

Blasters probably wouldn't perform real well in missions on a battleship b/c of the range issues but I haven't tested personally.

I've tried a rattlesnake (without T2 sentries), typhoon (with T2 torpedoes), fleet issue typhoon and tengu versus the machariel or nightmare and come to the conclusion that missles are for masochists.

Not today spaghetti.

faction tachs, navy multifrequency and 4x faction heat sinks should get you well over 1k dps with proper skills.
