EVE Acceptance: At an all-time high.

So I was caught today playing EVE at work, instead of my boss getting mad at me he kept asking me questions about it.

Reasons why I think EVE applies to the work environment:
a) Capitalism is a strong theme.
b) Networking between corporations.
c) Money is all that matters in RL, and ISK is all that matters in EVE
d) Everyone wants to be "optimal"

This could be a new opening to making EVE more socially acceptable in a broader sense. Imagine being able to openly admit that you spend 8 to 15 hours a day playing an internet spaceship game! After all this time of concealing what I was doing, expecting a bitter retribution for gaming on the clock. He said he would be right back, he needs to talk to HR about EVE in the workplace.

Breaking news update: This guy's boss is happily mining away in highsec with his brand new hulk after months of hard work. He gets suicide ganked. The next day this guy is no longer to pay for his eve sub due to no longer having a job.

Yeah...playing eve with workmates is kinda like hiring your brother-in-law. Might seem like a good idea...but in the end...you'll regret it. Somebody's feelings are going to get hurt.

You play EVE at work? And you let your boss catch you?
And he liked what he saw?

Don't know which of you is worse, but i sure wouldn't want either of you on my corp. EVE corp or RL corp.

I'm only morally obligated to tolerate Eve.....not accept it.

While I'd be inclined to agree with you, my experience has taught me otherwise. One of my old corps (this is an alt, ofc), had a number of people in it who all worked for the same company IRL. One of the guys was the IRL supervisor of two or three of our other corp members, which was sorta ironic since he was kinda an EVE newbie. We all flew together for well over a year, and I never once heard any issues about anything, either EVE-related carrying over to real-life, or real-life carrying over into EVE. Furthermore, I think because we were mostly a small-gang PvP corp, their outer-game relationship ended up making us all better PvPers, since so much of small-gang warfare is knowing the capabilities of your mates and how they tend to fly, so you can kind of know what they're gonna do before they do it. But yea, in the end it was totally spaceship circumstances that caused everyone to mostly split ways.

Without knowing what he does, it'd be hard to make any type of judgement calls on "being caught".

When I played LoTRO - one guy, with 3 'buddies' in the game turned out to be a computer store owner that sold computers and video games and his "friends" were his staff. They played but also used the games to demo the graphics capabilities of the machines they sold.

Another guy ran an archive library so spent his time backing up systems remotely, validating the backups and pull restores "on-demand". Lots of time doing nothing with a hell of a lot of computer power at his disposal. His boss didn't care what he did as long as everything was taken care of in his job description.
