Running Lvl 3s Solo in a Dramiel?

Hey guys - I've been playing EVE for a couple years, with about 21 mil SP. The problem has been that for the last 6 months, I've been offline, writing my PhD dissertation. I have kept my skill queue running, though, so that not all that time was wasted. Nonetheless, much of what I learned playing EVE has been forgotten, given my schoolwork requirements. So, I'm posting here, as I feel like a noob in even asking these questions.

This brings me to a rather noobish question: is it possible to run Lvl 3 missions solo in a well-equipped Dramiel?

I know this will bring trolls, and that's OK. But I am really interested in what fittings for a Dramiel might be best for typical LvL3 missions, mostly in high-sec space. If so, any fitting recommendations? I have saved a few billion ISK from my earlier EVE career, so I think I should have enough to cover somewhat expensive modules, if necessary...

Any help would be very much appreciated. Any trolling would not.

Some are possible. Some will make you lose your ship. Go with a passive shield tank and an AB. If you blow up your sig radius with a MWD you wont make it. Keep moving.

With a whopping 192dps under perfect conditions you will be rather slow tho. A Drake with crappy skills will do the job much better.

If you take all the sand out of the box, only the cat poo will remain.

Yes it's doable but slow, your dps is simply too low compared with 400+ DPS from battlecruisers.

I've done almost all L3s in a Jaguar and Retribution - so a Dramiel should do ok as well. I'd recommend an active tank though, preferably a small deadspace booster.

OK thanks guys. I appreciate the input.

One issue of EON magazine (Issue 22, Winter 2010/2011, page 49) had this as a general setup:

HIGH
2 x 280mm Howitzer Artillery II
Republic Fleet EMP S
Small 'Knave' I Energy Drain

MIDS
Coreli C-Type 1MN MWD
Warp Disruptor II
Stasis Webifier II
Cap Recharger II

LOWS
Gyrostabilizer II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Overdrive Injector System II

RIGS
Small Poly Engine Housing I
Small Projectile Collision Accelerator I
Small Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I

DRONES
4 x Hobgoblin II (3 active)

Now this was obviously not for mission running, as it seems to be more of a PVP setup wiht the Warp Disruptor and Stasis Webifier (since PvE targets aren't going to make a run for it, at least from my memory).

But, author (with his skills at whatever level they are) claimed 6,000 meters per second as its main defense. The EM rig, he noted, was "to give a bit more coverage to the EM resistance hole."

Realizing that this may be comparing apples (PVP) to oranges (PVE), I thought I would post it, just to stimulate discussion on possible setups for mission running LVL3s solo.

Well ... perhaps you should give it a try. I once tried a mwd for the Damsel mission - and i almost got instapopped because of my signature blooming when at 0 m/s (because you have to pick up a mission objective), don't forget that missiles always hit.

Usually I used a good AB that does around 1,000 m/s and deadspace booster (Jaguar)/repper (Retribution). Turrets will hardly hit you, it's missiles that you have to be careful with, in my experience Guristas missions are the toughest to do, afaik you can do 100% of the non-Guristas L3 missions. Also be careful with webbers, take them out first, with artillery staying out of 10km range should be easy, when using ACs use Barrage S.

My Jaguar fit:

[Jaguar, L3]
Tracking Enhancer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II

Ancillary Ballistic Screen Stabilizer I
Micro Capacitor Booster I, Cap Booster 100
Gistii B-Type Small Shield Booster
Gistii C-Type 1MN Afterburner

200mm AutoCannon II, Barrage S
200mm AutoCannon II, Barrage S
200mm AutoCannon II, Barrage S
TE-2100 Standard Missile Bay, Caldari Navy Flameburst Light Missile

Small Core Defence Field Extender I
Small Core Defence Field Extender I

I know, it may not be that helpful for a Dramiel but just to give an indication. Perhaps you may want to do something with your resists instead of the shield extender since Dramiels only have T1 resists.

No MWD. Too much Sig.

Get in tight and fire away. They wont hit you often, but you will take a long time to kill them...

Don't use that EON fit - you're right that it's for PvP, and it's also terrible.

Use an AB, remember you have drones, kill webbing frigates first and you'll be fine. I'd recommend an MSE/SB fit, having some buffer is pretty nice especially if you don't always pay attention, and the sig hit is worth it.

But it will be slow - I'd recommend a Cynabal if you want something nimble and fun to fly in Lvl 3's.

I do LV4 missions all the time in the Dramiel. A little slow for some missions, and lacks the DPS for the very hardest BS, but lots of them can be done. Check out a post on my blog where I talk about it...EVE Missions - Or how I learned to stop worrying and love a good agent (especially the ones that say Y'aar)

As for doing lV3 missions.. .should be just great for blitzing them :)

Having said that a mission Ishkur is probably able to do them a bit faster though.

yes u can easily run solo l3's in a rifter if u have the right skills.

the best 2 l3 solo frigs are dramiel and ishkur cos of the big drone bays (well big for a frig)

Try an Ishkur instead. Blaster fit and a Nos. Get up close and melt everything, your Nos keeps your AB and local rep running forever. You also got kickass drones. I also fit a web to slow the rats down. The neuting/TD'ing rats can be a problem, like this level 3 with some elite cruisers I ran a long time ago but I only got that mission in that one time.

Plus its a freaking Ishkur. Sexy as hell.
