So I just came back to the game. Moving around the country makes gaming hard X

Anyways, I'm getting back into the game partially, meaning no missioning but looking to get into industry more than I used to. So I log in both my accounts, get my Retriever/InteronIV duo going. Anyways, long story short, I'm ******** as this duo doesn't work anymore since the Retriever's hold a buttload more than they used to. Also, I plan on going somewhere out in the middle of no where to mine.

So basically the process will be, mine till my hulls are full, warp back to station, drop off load, then go back for more Ore.

My question is this; What ship should I use to haul Ore to take it and put it on the market? My tried and true Interon IV and Mammoth aren't going to cut it as Ore haulers anymore.

The reply writes itself -- for solo or small group work, the orca is the definitive choice for mineral and ore hauling. For larger corps and ongoing hauls >500M isk, bump up to freighter.

Ok, yeah, I was thinking Orca was going to be the answer. Ok, well Gotta start saving and training for it then.

Thanks for the replies.

in the mean time Iteron V is a good hauler, 38,000m3 + gets a can plus half of one.

go with a covetor(since the rebalance you can fly it if you can fly a retriever) as your barge and you can use an orca as a hauler/booster you will fill up fairly quickly

Oh, Do go on... no seriously ive got nothing better to do then listen to all the petty arguments and feeble trolling attempts...

The sad thing is i'm not sure if i'm telling the truth.

I believe the OP actually wants to make it to market with the ore...

Orca is the "best" solution.

I would ahve to check the number but if it follow the same format as the hulk/mack model, then a retriever would be better total yield by hauling by itself because of the downtime of going to station to pick up the iteron. If it follow the same model, the break point is around 3 ship multi boxing where a hauler + 3 strip barges would beat the same number of ships in 2 strip barges.

Here is what I find is the case:

Orca is your Command Booster and General Ore/Transport.

The Ore hold is not worth much as your not going to get much out of that amount - few Million in ISK... the cargo though filled with minerals is very nice - couple hundred Million...

What you want to do is use the maint to transport your miner ships and other ships (whateve you need - scanning, etc) you can pack up your suppiies and head out - dock up in a system you like, if you want you can take a POS with you even...fits and then you have your mining camper site... pretty much you can do whatever you need - once you have setup your NPC hangar or your POS you can then mine, refine and fill the orca and take it to market, works well.

Hmm...

What's wrong with refining the ore locally (requires decent standings at a nearby station), and then hauling the resulting minerals to market?

ORCA doesn't hold that much ore. 50,000m3 ore bay, 89,000m3 in cargo with max cargo rigs and T2 expanders (which is a dangerous way to fit an ORCA) and another 40,000m3 in corp hanger. 179,000m3 with a very limited tank.

If you are mainly using it as a hauler it is much faster to train up for a freighter. get your hauler alt into a retriever as well. ore hold is nice and big so not many trips to station. wait until you have a freighter load and then head out to a hub. freighters full of ore are not appetizing targets to pirates.

Alternatively, train up refining skills and haul freighter loads of minerals to market. way more isk per trip. minerals mined in high sec are still high volume low value cargo. nobody wants to gank that.

If you are planing on using an ORCA in belt to haul and boost, upgrade your retriever to a covetor for more yield. the large ore hold in the retriever is only valuable if you are self hauling. Two retrievers even self hauling will bring in more ore than an ORCA/covetor combo. And requires less attention.

It isn't a ton different, but I get about 93k in my cargo on my orca. Id have to go back and check but I have an omni tank on it and I believe its around 100k.

The reason Orca is recommended is not just because of the size. It is also because you can't scan it. Almost (hey, some have been known to for the hell of it) no one bothers trying to gank Orca's in high sec simply because they have no idea whats in them.

Freighters are fairly safe because of the huge EHP on them, but if someone scans them and sees several billion worth of goodies, guess what? Suddenly the swarm of cheap ships comes flying in and *poof*, there goes your ship and your profit.

I do have both myself. And I use them both depending on my needs at the moment. I agree that OP should take the time to train up for freighters, but I use Orca more often than not. Its just entirely too handy, and fits the gap between indies and freighters (at least until, hopefully, someday, they come out with a middle class hauler).
