What happens to our characters when we cannot play Eve anymore?

I've been playing since 2004, last 2 with a brain tumor. I can only move my left hand on a track ball now. Transferring my chars to my wife when I can no longer move.

You can give a char to someone without giving a reason, It's not mandatory to sell it. I had a friend who quit eve for good and transferred his main to me. I filed a petition before it happened and the GM said it was ok.

This came up a while ago about transfering to a family member when something like this happened, i think ccp said it would be ok to give the account as it was family and not just some friend. Could be wrong as it was a few years ago that i saw it and things could have changed.
