Please dont troll, please LMAO....How does sci fi even make money!!!?!

the sy-fy channel makes money by running reality shows, wrestling matches and infomercials. Sci-fi channel was one of my favorite channels for many years, RIP. Not to mention RIP techTV channel which was all time #1. If it weren't for the FX and Sci channel, I'd cancel it all together.

I agree. There was a time when Sci Fi was something to watch, not this syfy stuff. They had good shows and series at the time, now the focus more on the c-level movies.

I finally got around to watch Prometheus. It was OK, as far as new movies goes. But I think it tired to do too much, in too little time. I never really got a feel for the characters, and the different alien things did not really make a whole lot of sense. I think it could have been better if they used 3-4 hours with the same content, but actually fletched out the details a bit. I mean, they land on an alien world, and the first thing they do is rampage through some ruins and touch and open everything they find? What are these people, idiots? Simply not believable characters.

Also, I could not stand the focus on religion in the ending there. Scientists in 2089 still believing in religion? Too far fetched :)

Read more Arthur C. Clarke. He makes some interesting cases for the survival of religion into the far future.

Maybe, but judging by todays standard, most scientists are not religious, and there seem to be a growing number of atheists worldwide, though not all that big yet.

As for the general population, religion might still be around for a while yet.

Movies I consider must-watch Sci-fi:

The Empire Strikes Back
Serenity
Alien
Aliens
District 9
The Wrath of Khan
The Day the Earth Stood Still (original)
Blade Runner
Fifth Element
Twelve Monkeys
The Abyss
Cube
Event Horizon
Stargate
The Iron Giant
War of the Worlds (1953)
Planet of the Apes
Rise of the Planet of the Apes - some will disagree, but this movie sets up a great prequel to the original.
The Last Starfighter
When Worlds Collide
Predator
Enemy Mine
Primer
Tron
Forbidden Planet
Robocop
Terminator
Terminator 2

Pretty much covers it, Cube and Event Horizon are vastly underrated, I would add the original Star Wars trilogy and The Black Hole.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I watched the new Total Recall and thought it was ok but not on a par with the Arnie Original.

My fave current Sci Fi film is Battle Los Angeles, along with several others that I can watch over and over like Capt America or Thor.

The absolute best has to be the original Star Wars Trilogy, nuff said.

I watched Capt. America and Thor. Once was quite enough for me. Just an average run of the mil action move kind of thing. However, I have watched the original SW movies quite a few times :)

I have seen Alien a few times as well, no new movie really manages to capture that same essence. But The Man from Earth was quite good, seen it two times I think.

As for Prometheus, I speak from a standpoint of a totally biased Aliens fan, so I went in expecting a bit more in the way of explanation to the Alien origin.

That's what Jon Spaihts's original script was about (nicknamed Alien 'Zero'), then Scott brought in Lindelof for a re-write. Scott wanted Prometheus to be more about the "guy in the big chair", i.e. the Space Jockey/Engineers.

Summary: Engineer converses w/David, Shaw fights Engineer w/axe, David tells Shaw Engineers are from "Paradise", she wants to go, crew finds worm on first trip to temple and bottles it, alternate Fifield attack scene, Janek conversation w/Vickers in her quarters.

Highly recommend anybody interested in Spaihts's work to check out the scripts for Passengers and Shadow 19.

First is about a man who wakes up out of stasis on a colonist ship on an 80-year voyage, wakes up a beautiful woman, and...

Second is about a soldier who is teleported by scientists from a location on Earth to an incredibly biodiverse planet with extremely deadly wildlife to fix what goes wrong with a failed colonizing effort, in a process that actually clones him there while leaving his original behind.

Passengers: http://www.whoaisnotme.net/scripts/PSG_xx_UD.pdf
Shadow 19: http://www.whoaisnotme.net/scripts/S19_2006_3D.pdf

Sadly, the script for Alien 'Zero' isn't yet publicly available.

Good info. I guess ultimately, i feel the movie was good, interesting to say the least. But my disappointment was that as a fan of Aliens and how the film was marketed, the expectation was the backstory on the Alien itself. This was more a film about the history of mankind, using the Alien universe to tell the story. Should have been a different movie entirely imo. Still good, but disappointing for a fan of the fiction.

And those deleted scenes would have made the movie much more cohesive to the Alien series.

Sadly there have been a few great SF films, as far as I am concerned.

Of the Alien series my two favourites were the first and the extended cut of the third (the Sony released one was a mess, but the proper version was wonderfully gritty). The fourth was just so-so and the second was simply Duke Nukem in space and nothing fantastic other than lots of guns.

Blade Runner I simply adored; and I preferred the orginal version to the Director's Cut (even though it had that borrowe segment of film from The Shining) as the voice over added that nor feel to it and didn't have the give-away glowing eyes.

But perhaps my favourite SF film of all time is the Russian 'Stalker' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalker_%281979_film%29) which has just quality oozing from every scene. it won't appeal to the CGI brigade at all.

I'm gonna shout out in agreement with this guy right here, but will say the only science-fiction film I see as being better / equal to Brazil is 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Also to all the people throwing out miscellaneous B-movies, where the **** is Spacehunter???
