Where do you find your fun in activities normally? Chances are high that Eve has that niche somewhere.

Beyond that its a game of thought, planning long term goals, stratgey and such things. You have to build the box, install the button then push for the bacon.

Just enjoy the ride, do what you can do with the skills you have, if require assistance, get ii: all you have to do is a little asking.

I enjoy EVE even when I lose huge amounts of ISK (pod luck, rod luck is more like it)

Forget about what you could be doing, and just do something.

Friends make this a lot easier and more rewarding.

As you have to ask this question, you're a consumer.
You'll stay for a few months and then leave without anybody really caring.

If you don't enjoy flying a throw away tackler in fleet there is probably no hope for you tbh.

When I get bored of just mindless isk farming

Isk farming is not "mindless". It is for a very specific reason - isk helps you achieve your goal. If you play EVE thinking that fattening your wallet is what the game is about, you are only playing half the game, like playing monopoly by rolling the dice and going around the board collecting $200 from "Go" without actually doing anything else. You'll get bored of that really quickly.

ISK is a means to an end - be it to collect and research exotic blueprints and items, to manufacture on a vast scale, managin and organizing corporations and alliance and creating or resolving intrigue, or to destoy your enemies and hear the lamentation of their women, ISK is the tool that lets you achieve this. But just like in monopoly where most of the fun actually comes in the form of the decisions you make, and their impact on the unfortunate victims you extort through rent rather than "money" in itself; so in EVE most of the fun arises from your interaction with the other inhabitants of the universe.

How you interact is entirely up to you - will you be a wretched scammer, a notorious spy, a silver tongued diplomat, an honest and trusted merchant, a fearsome soldier, a cunning flight commander, a brilliant strategist... the possibilities are endless.

So, any advice? Is EVE not for me? Should I cut my losses and cancel, or is there a way to get some enjoyment out of this game.

(oh, and I am not a WoW player, never have been, so don't say "GB2WoW" I like cerebral sci-fi games, it's just I can't seem to get into this game despite multiple attempts because of the interminable skill times and requirements)

From what you have posted I would say no, it is just not your cup of tea. You could follow the advice of others and find a nice corp to join but if your having issues with the main aspect of the game (training time ect..) then no matter who you join you will get put off by it eventually. I don't know of any other game more cerebral than EVE. You have to invest time into your character to be any good.

I love the fact that a day old character cant just hop into ship and go take down titans. It makes me appreciate my character and it's skill set much more. If instant gratification is your thing then EVE may not be for you. Maybe Dust 514 will be more your speed? Not sure how its learning curve is compared to EVE's. I haven't really followed it too much to be honest. I don't really go for dumbed down FPS console games.

Go do RvB, they do pvp that's full of other people with lower skills, they'll also do arranged fights where everybody will be in frigates. Good way to do pvp without needing three years of training.

Quit focusing on what you don't have skill wise, and focus on what you do have, and use it to its fullest.

You'll never enjoy this game unless you're able to have fun at the expense of others.

Or at least not until CCP is done casualizing it. Then you'll be set up with a pre-fit mining barge at each login, and will have lots of "laffs" blasting space rocks with your {insert a racially-diverse group of 18-35, middle-class urbanite} friends while updating your linked Facebook profile via an in-game browser that can finally play Angry Birds.

You will have fun. Trust me. It will be the only way you'll be able to justify the lifetime subscription you'll purchase without turning to tears and alcoholism

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Ir while playing Minecraft lol

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.
