How the hell do I enjoy this game?

So, I've activated my EVE account for the whateverth time or so, and I still can't seem to enjoy this game. It seems that it takes months of skill training to participate enjoyably in anything except missioning. mining or playing the market .PVP? "Fly a small frigate and tackle in fleets until your 'core' skills are up, and you can fit T2s then move into something bigger". Manufacturing? "Train all your production skils to 5, until then your just losing money".

It's very discouraging and frustrating. If I hadn't already put another 20 bucks in by buying a PLEX(to stockpile some ISK so I can lose ships in PVP), I would have cancelled by now.

So, any advice? Is EVE not for me? Should I cut my losses and cancel, or is there a way to get some enjoyment out of this game.

(oh, and I am not a WoW player, never have been, so don't say "GB2WoW" I like cerebral sci-fi games, it's just I can't seem to get into this game despite multiple attempts because of the interminable skill times and requirements)

Do things as opposed to waiting for them to happen.

EVE requires a sense of agency.

If you need people to give you goals join a corp with lots of goals

if you want low-SP PVP + isk source, go join faction warfare

When I get bored of just mindless isk farming I find it helps to really imagine my self into the role of a freelance capsuleer and play it from that perspective, of course the content remains the same, but by changing my outlook towards it I can manage to keep going just a little bit longer.

I do sympathize with your difficulty though, I too have found this to be one of the hardest games I've come across to really get into, and unless you're starting out with the support of one of these outside communities that have vast resources at their disposal it can be pretty tough as a new player to find your place in this game, especially if your personality type registers more on the lone wolf end of the social spectrum.

What's wrong with simply becoming really good at flying tackle frigates? Train all the skills you need to fly them well, then train your alts for everything else. While you're having stuff helping make things explode by holding them in place long enough for your mates to bash them to pieces, your alts can be training for "something bigger".

As for what to do: have a look at Things to Do In EVE Online. Understand that, being a cerebral science fiction game, EVE Online requires you to choose your own adventures.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your frigate!

If you are asking these questions this early you got a bad first impression and that will stay with you for how ever long you stay.

Enjoy EVE? You're doing it wrong. You may aspire to enjoy whatever you do in EVE, but EVE in itself is neither enjoyable nor fun.

This. Eve is like getting mugged by 5 guys; a good day is rolling around on the floor in such a way that you don't get kicked in the happy sack.

Play it mostly while high on copious amounts of your favourite intoxicant.

Combine that with:

Enjoy the things you can do now, rather than looking to what you can do in 6 months. So many peopel do this, its ridiculous, they rush to get into big ships, and then once they can they realise that in fact most of the fun happens in the small ships anyway.

Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing.

I'd love to troll this but it's a good idea...

"We will create the introduction thread if that is requested by the community. Also, we will have an ISD Seminar about the CCL team in the coming weeks in which you can ask your questions about the CCL team and provide some constructive feedback to us." - Countless pages of locked threads and numerous permabanned accounts later, change is coming.

This is why it's a sandbox, you have to find out yourself what you enjoy doing. Try things out and see what your niche is.

buy 50 cheaply fitted frigates. go on a wild rampage through low and null, plan on losing each one. believe me , it doesn't sound very fun but it is

You can't. The "fun" in EVE is simply the addiction of striving towards goals that forever move away from you.
