Forum ate my post X

Basically, year and a half out of grad school, nine months of looking for a job, three months in horrible abusive job (24/7 on call, no breaks, no benefits, contract works out to less than minimum wage), nine more months of looking for a job, can't work retail or food because they assume people with grad degrees on their resume are trolling, can't work retail or food without grad degree because no experience (WTF?), got call for first interview since last 'job', couldn't go because I was too busy being in withdrawal from crazy pills which I/parents couldn't afford anymore because insurance are c*nts and don't cover mental disorders as they are a "quality of life" condition.

I would literally kill OP (ingame) if I could claim his life as reward.

Protip: Don't put crap on a resume/application you think the hiring manager won't want to see

If you want a job at Schlitburgers or wherever, it's not exactly a capital punishment to exclude the fact you have a college degree. As for the 'experience' part, wtf are you applying for? Store manager? Lower your horizons. Almost anything will pay more than min. wage and you aren't making that so......

So... now that we've covered the fact you didn't actually learn how to think in all your years of schooling, perhaps we can continue the conversation about how bad it sucks to be you.

Withdrawal from crazy pills? Stop taking pills. Smoke weed erryday, maybe some brewskies at the pub to liven things up. Take up billiards. RElacks

All of you should get a terrible form of cancer. NO, I don't mean it like that, but trust me, you go through something like that and stare down death and suddenly you take life a lot less seriously and take less and less for granted.

Find the happy in your life and focus on it. You only get to do this once, you don't have to do it perfectly, just try to enjoy the ride. And always remember:
Somewhere, someone has it so much worse than you. Be grateful for whatever pittance the universe has handed you, because it's better than having never been given a life at all.

It could be way better too.

To the OP, having lived int he UKs south for 20 months i certainly know what ur going through. I worked at the Dorset County Council for 6 months as well as spending 5 weeks at the Poole council... man that was ****. crappy money, ridiculous PC, stupid co-workers and way too many employees to take work away from you.

I moved out of there and back to Australia in September 2008 to work in Sydney for a semi decent wage, but got sick of that about 12 months ago. After changing jobs to something better with a small company (as opposed to a huge one), it is nicer here.

I just applied for and got a job with BHP Billiton though, up in Queensland. my wage is gonna be quadrupled, will be working harder though. My missus is English, she is still living in the UK but will be here early next year so we both may work in the mines and make a fortune.

There is a cost though, 12 hour days, the mine being about 2 hours from the nearest city (there is an on-site village to stay at though), and pretty desolate conditions.

I don't think anyone should be happy when they have only enough to just get by... but that's just me.

You're from Australia. Your opinion doesn't count because you live in one of the best places on earth. Lol A bad day for Australians is something like catching all the red lights on your way to work.

You have excellent benefits, excellent pay, one of the highest quality of life on earth, great education, great medical facilities, and your government actually works for its citizens. Whatever you complain about is not worth even bringing up anywhere else in the world, and when you say, "I know what you're going through", well, that doesn't carry much water. It's similar to two banking presidents being forced into retirement with a $5,000,000 golden parachute, and one pats the other on the back and says, "I know what you're going through."

If you're from Australia and you're younger than 60, you've never suffered. Sorry, but it's the truth. "Oh noes, people aren't politically correct where I work! Oh noes, I can't have an hour and a half lunch break! Oh noes, I have to actually work 8 hours a day for 5 days a week! Oh noes, I don't like my co-workers! Oh noes, I don't make a 6-figure salary on an entry-level position!"

You've got to be kidding me. You just don't realize how good you have it there. Please expand on "desolate conditions". When I hear "desolate conditions", I think tents and portable toilets and group showers where you have to turn off the water while you lather up so as to conserve it. 12 hour days is the norm at any high-paying position anywhere else.

My Job, I ******* hate it. I work for local government in the UK. They call it a customer service centre, it's just a ******* call centre.

Others have pointed out how lucky you are in other ways, but I am going to point out how lucky you are in this specific way. The Government plans to sack nearly half a million public sector workers and local councils will be forced to sack even more as the Tories have slashed local government funding.

You can probably count yourself lucky if you have that job within the next 12 months, local authorities will be taking long hard looks at areas like customer service call centers and seeing if job cuts will help them balance the books.

If you aren't a member already go and join a union btw, they need every members voice they can get to oppose this bullshit.

I see a lot of "it could be worse" nonsense in this thread. I honestly can't imagine a worse existence than having to talk to geezers on the phone all day about their problems.

Well except for maybe doing tech support for geezers over the phone. Have you ever had to talk your parents through computer problems over the phone? It's the second definition of HELL in the dictionary.

"I'm trying to check my email but forgot how!"

"Okay click on the start menu."

"I don't see a start menu."

"It's the green button we talked about last time."

"I don't see it. It's not there."

"Buttom left hand side of the screen."

"It's not there!"

"IT IS!"

"NO IT'S NOT! STOP YELLING AT ME!"

"IT ******* IS! IT ALWAYS IS! READ THE SCREEN!"

"Is it green?"

"I SAID IT WAS GREEN!"

"Is it in the corner?"

"BOTTOM. LEFT. CORNER. GREEN. LOOK. WITH YOUR EYES. THE SCREEN IS ONLY 17 INCHES!!!"

"Does it say Start?"

"YES! CLICK IT! CLICK IT NOW GOD DAMMIT!"

"My email didn't come up."

"Click on Windows Mail."

"I don't see it...."

I work as an cashier behind the service desk in a supermarket. You know how many start complaining when a payment done by cash got rounded up 2 cents? Or how many people yell at me when they can't pin extra cash from me and I point them to the ATM 5 meters away?

Before my job there I wanted to become a doctor or something and now I am studying communication lol. People are scum when they are just doing groceries, imagine if they are ill...

Having the job of the OP I would probably kill myself to.

Sure are a few "quityerbitchin" replies here Lol

Come on, like which country you live in makes a difference, a person could've been driven into depression and drug abuse since childhood even if it is a prince(ess) of utopia.

The contrast (to the society) the individual lives in then wouldn't help you know.

trouble is a stray dog, anyone who has petted it knows this.

I would like to say that I hope his life gets better, but from the sound of it, I honestly can't see how it's bad in the slightest.

Matters not how bad a job sucks - unemployment is always worse.

And I have had jobs that were so bad, Friday's didn't matter if I had the weekend off because I still had to come back on Monday and I would spend all weekend dreading Monday; ulcers and all that.

Yeah i know i have it good here... in fact i would go so far as to say there is no better place on Earth to work cause of the high wages, choice of industry and many vacancies. It's the benifits of a developing economy.

To give you an idea of how hard life is, today i got stopped at 3 red lights... now i am pissed off and it will last all day :-( even though i don't deal with anyone but friendly, good people on the phone. Every single call. Fkn lights.

I will be moving out of Sydney to get away from the traffic lights. Up to a City called Mackay, it's not far from some tropical islands and the resorts on them, deep sea fishing, awesome beaches and the Great Barrier Reef. I will be living 10 minutes from the coast on a 5 acre, 4 bedroom double story house.

I will be working 8 days on, 5 days off, 12 hour days though, mining coal. Operating machinery, driving big things around.

I will also be the HR manager on the site.

The downside? The mine is about 2 hours away from Mackay, it is very dry, dusty and windy there. And hot.

i think i will have to take a paint tin and paint RORQUAL onto the side of something very big...

But yeah. I know what the OP is going through cause when i was int he UK for a working holiday i did much the same thing and got sick of it pretty quick.

OP: welcome to the wonderful world of adults. You've just described the world every adult inhabits unless they're real lucky.

- work sucks: check
- customers/clients suck: check
- managers suck: check
- parents frakked you up: check
- depression: check
- ****** commute: check

At least you're getting lots of nookie.

My advice: change things now whilst you're young with few commitments and liabilities, or you're stuck with that level of suckiness for the next couple of decades.

Sometimes people need to vent, it's all good. Perspective is generally limited to what each of us sees and feels, everything else is abstract. Hang in there.
