Are mutual wars inescapable?

I haven't done any tests, but I've got 25 corps or so trapped in permanent mutual wars with Dec Shield. Every week they beg me to drop the mutuality so the wardecs will drop (Dec Shield is the defending side). I get countless surrender options, and I'm still accumulating wars that people don't seem to know how to end.

So, is it actually not possible for them to end the war?

They seem to be far too attached to their corp name. Otherwise, they'd simply shut down the corp and remake it.

This. Make them pay out to end it. Turn their "whoops" into "profit" for "yourself".

...I don't think those last quotes were truly necessary. Hrm.

Why would you change the name when you remake it? Close Corp > Remake Corp with same name. Same way people shed incoming wardecs.

Anyway, I would have expected that the attacker would be able to withdraw, forcing the defender to pay or let the war lapse.

Once it's mutual, you can't just end the war. Both sides have to agree on the terms. That's the whole point of having them mutual (not just having the war for free).
