Personally never knew this man, but from everything I've read, he is deserving of a tribute from the men and women of EVE.

I would humbly suggest a permanent in-game memorial of some sort, perhaps a permanent Titan wreck or an indestructible Space Object, in addition to a PLEX for Shooting Blues Vile Rat, for support for his family. I'm not sure if this would be possible as a donation/charity effort, but I think the effort should be made.

RIP Sean Smith/Vile Rat. You were taken far too soon.

RIP, Sean/VR... it's a sad day to see anyone's life lost in such a way.

My condolences to his friends, family and corpmates alike.

I didn't know him in game. But I definetly agree with the sentiment that we have lost "one of us." My heart goes out to his wife and children. And thank you for an excellent tribute post. Although I'm very saddened by the news, I've never been more proud of the Eve community and CCP for how they have honored a great fellow Eve player.

VR, you will be remembered always o7.

I didn't know Sean personally. But it feels like I did. I didn't really know him in-game much, but it also feels like I did. There are those names we hear in space, the names that - even when we are young - ring with authenticity, power, honor, and hushed whispers. Vile Rat was one of those names. He once helped a Noobish Diplomat from a nothing Alliance defend his space, offer words of encouragement and wisdom, and that Noob has never forgotten him. He was a real human being.

My sincere sympathies go out to his family and friends. The world, much like Eve, is a harsh place. And there is often little comfort in such a horrible tragedy. But I can only hope that comfort comes from knowing him better than we could. Better than I was able to.

I am saddened by the death of a fellow gamer, EVE player, veteran and countryman. I didn't know Sean, and I have very little contact with Vile Rat, yet I find myself with a heavy heart after learning of his death.

Perhaps a good way to make sense of it all is by taking heart in the community reaction. For many, Vile Rat was an enemy. Another red to shoot. Another goon to hate. However, it's events like this that put into perspective that we're all ONE community as EVE players, and we all feel pain when we lose someone who is a part of that community, especially someone as involved as Sean was. It's a reminder that behind the power struggles of EVE politics that there are people who all share a passion for this world CCP has created, and who can come together at moments like this as ONE community.

Condolences to Sean's family, friends and capsuleers that flew with him. I didnt know the guy but feel like I did after reading all the moving tributes from those that did.

That fact that the community has put aside any differences to pay respects to the guy is amazing. Ccp should be proud of the community they have built over the last ten years. Props.
