My thoughts and prayers with his family. He made a simple game into a complex wonderland. I know his legacy continues.

P.S. SA is starting a fund for his surviving family, can anyone get a link for that here?

My sympathies to Sean Smith's family and friends.

Was not lucky enough to cross paths with him, I wish I had Sad

It seems Vile Rat left us a parting gift: news of this State Department official and the online game he played made all the major news wires and will likely be picked up by mainstream media tomorrow. Get ready for a huge influx of new players Pirate

Rest in peace man. This is a tragedy for EVE as a whole. I may dislike the Goons, but this is not what any of us wanted.

Inappropriate signature added.  CCP Notarealdev.

Vile Rat

I have gotten to know only a tiny bit of you over the last few years through your work as diplomat and FC for CFC.

When hearing of this tragic news I can think of only one thing.. wishing I'd gotten to know you more.

You not only changed the lives of most eve online players but a huge portion of your fellow Americans and Nato Allies not to mention all the others around this world your work has directly effected.

Just remember that all your achievements and successes will NOT be forgotten. Both within EVE and in RL.

the world is in debt to you for your contribution to the human race.

I know that in some fashion your work saved thousands through out your career.

RIP Vile Rat

you will be missed

My hope is that the love and compassion expressed by so many here for this man in some way helps ease the wretched terrible sadness that his wife and family are going through.

Reading what others have written he mattered to so many people. He made a difference. That must count for a lot in life.
You were blessed to have known him.

I did not know you ingame, but you died serving your country, trying to help Libya become a better place.

It is a very honourable ideal to die for.

RIP.

Btw, in case some are wondering why he and the other state dept officials were caught behind while the rest were able to get out in time:

I can confirm that statement above is correct from my work, and that Sean literally died in service to his country to destroy sensitive information to prevent the possibility of said secret information falling into enemy hands that could (and would) result in the deaths of others.

He died because he put duty and the service of the nation first before his own personal safety.

It's not much consolation because it will never fill the void, but goddamn it, he was a genuine hero.

Brave spacecaptains past, and beloved dead, we honor you in death as best we players know how. With copious amounts of alcohol.

Put his life on the line to save countless other lives from sharing his fate. I salute you with honor Sean even though i never had any blue on blue kills or really had the chance to get to know you better. You seemed like a good man and i can see that from your actions. Rest in peace Sean for you have made the ultimate sacrifice. And as always fly safe and fly dangerous in the afterlife o7
