Im interested in what everyones favorite sci fi film is and why.

Myself, Aliens is my favorite by far. I can recite it almost exactly ive seen it so much, ive owned the quadrilogy on 3 separate occasions, and read a good bit about its origins and history.

Now, saying that after having seen Prometheus, I was entertained, but was left with a feeling that Ridley Scott was hesitant to let some things be explained. My hope is that he will revisit the Alien series again with some new surprises. Well, that is my hope.

Aliens however, was directed by James Cameron and the difference in directors really shows. It had what people knew Alien for, the thriller/horror aspect, but also bought good action and imo the best practical special effects ever. I still remember being afraid as a kid of the Queen peeking her head in my bedroom door. And a tidbit for those who arent aware, Bill Paxton aka Pvt. Hudson has been killed by an Alien, the Predator and the Terminator.

All in all, Aliens is my fav and the series is great, and Id watch pretty much anything from Ridley Scott and James Cameron.

So what are you favs and why? Maybe if I havent watched it can get me interested in doing so.

This is a hard call.

Serenity or Star Wars (Original Trilogy Theatrical Release).

Star wars was the first sci fi I really got into; but serenity (and firefly) are just so enjoyable to me.

Hard to say...

Moving this from General Discussion to Out of Pod Experience.

It would be cool if there were sequels to Aliens, but there aren't. Such a shame.

I was blown away by Serenity when I first saw it. Then I heard it was from Firefly, and that the series actually led right into the movie. Im on the fence because as great as it is. now I know how it "ends" and my ocd prevents me from searching out the series from start.

But I know I need to because the movie was great.

Cause out of Pod is not so incredibly dead posting in there in useless or anything.

As for myself, I'm going to have go go with either Independence Day in all it's cheesy glory, or the first Matrix film.

After watching Prometheus I went and bought Alien Bluray boxset. Aliens moved up my list. I really enjoyed Prometheus. Still like to watch Event horizon. To many to list.

Event Horizon was really good and somewhat original. As for Prometheus, I speak from a standpoint of a totally biased Aliens fan, so I went in expecting a bit more in the way of explanation to the Alien origin. (not to spoil anything for those who havent seen it) Ill just say that it felt as if some things were hastily explained, and that gave me the feeling that while making or concepting the movie, Ridley felt that he missed his baby and wanted to come back to it at some point, so he was hesitant to get into further detail.

this is speculation and a bit of hope on my part. Still a good movie and I cant wait for the blue ray.

True story: 1st time going to see ID4, sold out. 2nd time, full theater, crappy seat. 3rd time, had to **** at the intro, so wasnt comfy at all for the entire movie. 4th time...finally, a seat right in the middle with an empty bladder!

And im hard pressed to find a better first encounter than Will Smith giving an alien a right cross.

Since I rarely agree with reviewers on anything(example I liked Skyline), I didn't read anything about Prometheus. I didn't know it was a prequel or whatever until I saw it. The surprise probably upped the enjoyment level.

I agree, reviews arent really a good indicator as to how good a movie is. Best to see for yourself if the trailer even had you the slightest bit interested.

I cant state enough my hopes for this game. Im hearing comparisons to L4D which i think fits the Aliens universe perfectly. And there hasnt been a good Aliens game since AVP2 on the PC. I did like the Aliens rail gun game in the arcade and playstation tho

LOL I remember that, I think it was snes, and I had it too. Ive been trying NOT to watch colonial marines footage, but after seeing that, im more excited for it. Doesnt look to have the polish of L4D, but I cannot go without this game!

Gotta be Aliens and Event Horizon...
Will always have a soft spot for Star Wars....

I must say that AVP was the first game I played with 4.1 surround sound... Did not get much sleep that night :)

Before I forget... has anyone seen "Darkstar" with the alien that's a beach ball and an existential AI bomb :)
