while having only heard of him in legend and by reputation he will be missed because its one thing when one of the fold leaves to do other stuff, its something else when he is taken,

but the enduring memory for me will be this

look at dotlan,

across all of eve from CVA space the south, the north, CFC members to SOLAR and -A- the stations are changing names to honour him,

id rather we still had a vile rat, but if we cant have him back, one day when he united all of eve will have to do,

internet spaceships is serious buisness but honouring the fallen is more

fly safe.

Even though this game can make people across the globe enemies and people across the globe friends, in the end, we're all players and participants only. We're a single community and this effects us all.

RIP Vile Rat.

If ever there was someone in EVE who truly encapsulated the Butterfly Effect, both in-game and in real life, it would be this capsuleer.

I read the original post right before I went to bed last night. I originally withheld judgement, waiting to see if it was a scam (this being the internet and the post being related to a Goon, after all). Then, this morning, I checked various news sites and saw, almost immediately, an article naming "Sean Smith" as one of those killed.

It was like somebody had just punched me in the face.

Stuff in real life doesn't usually affect me; I've largely walled myself off from it since the world sucks so much. This one, however got past my guard. Vile Rat was someone who, though I never met him, was a member of this community, a group that I've been part of for most of my adult life (8 years). Moreover, he was engaged in real life work to help make the world a better place, trying to turn some of the senseless chaos and conflict into hope and peace.

And then he was killed in a pointless act of violence, all because some bigot half a world away posted something on the internet, and some reactionary extremists decided that mere words warranted the death of random people who weren't even involved in the original posting.

******* senseless.

The world is truly a poorer place for Vile Rat's passing. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Rest in peace, Vile Rat. I hope you are in a better place. Sad

I have no words for the loss. I never met him but knew the name like many others.

I will keep his family and friends in my prayers.

Despite my imminent unemployment I too would be more than happy to throw in some money if CCP can come up with a donation that benefits his family.

Just breaks my heart.
