So how hard are COSMOS missions anyway?

So i've got a bunch of trade alts that could use more faction standing, and it seems like COSMOS missions are a real good way of getting that. There are plenty of guides and walkthroughs out there saying where the missions are and suggesting a good order to do them in. But... they fail to answer my question: how hard are these missions really?

My trade alts have little to no combat skills on their own (basically just what they needed to do the tutorial missions), and so I am wondering how much skill training I will need to do with these characters before I can reasonably expect to do COSMOS missions successfully with them.

Any thoughts about or answers to my question would be much appreciated. :D

One you get into the meatier missions they get fun, and the high level ones can get tough. No bravado, but some are rough.

The early ones are mostly very easy. One of the first amarr agents for example gives out 4 short courier missions then you get a nicestanding buff, so its great compared to normal grinding. None of the missions in the main cosmos areas are actually hard. Some require you to get a certain item from a static plex or belt rat which can be hard if others are farming, but then the items are generally on sale in station for a reasonable price anyway. The rewards are not that great as most cosmos items are prenerfed into the ground. There are some exceptions though.

The only hard part of cosmos are the lo sec areas which do require some pretty heavy tanking (as in logi support) and are rather dangerous (lo sec beacon any pirate can warp to. Of course this means they do give good rewards.

Still cosmos plus data centr agents mean you can grind high standing in no time, i got a char to 9.0 amarr standing without ever running a normal mission. I did all the combat missions with this char after accepting them with the trade char.

I haven't done any of the Amarr or Caldari COSMOS missions so I couldn't tell you anything about those but I have completed virtually all of the ones for Minmatar, Gallente, Thukker Tribe, & Sisters in high sec. I did get a bit of back-up help on a few of the level four ones which were a bit dicey and lost a Hurricane in one of them to spider drones(Scram & web. Boom!)
A few ideas/pointers for you:

1) If you are after Gallente standings don't do any Thukker Tribe as Gallente consider them criminals and you will get negative hits for completing Thukker Tribe with Gallente.
2) A lot of the easier/level one COSMOS are courier missions into low sec so be careful you don't get gate camped.
3) Most of the COSMOS missions I have done needed 'shopping lists' of items collected from complexes/deadspaces. It is best to look up guides on the missions and farm the items before you start doing the missions. Some items you have to 'queue up' to get and others - notably the Hacker Slice which sells on contracts for about 10 mil ISK each and which you need about 9 or 10 of - are fairly rare drops from rats.

Actually reading your OP again you say you have poor combat skills so I suggest you find a friend/corpie to help you do them. Smile

my COSMOS age was in first 6 months of game. It was age of T1 armor modules and Vexor/Myrmidon hull. Add here T1 drones and weak T1 guns and you get the picture.

I only skipped few low-sec missions (was too scaredLol).

They are a lot easier than they were. You can easily get your faction standing up to 7 in no time. It's a very quick way to get access to research agents. The Roden shipyards agents for gallente COSMOS give 3 easy storylines that get you enough standing to access the level 4 R&D agents.

They vary from utterly trivial to actualy reasonably dicey in some of the later rooms of bigger complexes (often with no logical progression). They are levelled from 1 to 4 like normal agent missions so that should give a guideline. Most of the sites have ship restrictions too so something like a T3 is a good one size fits all solution if you just want to hammer them asap.

However they can be pretty boring even by mission standards, imagine alot of time waiting in static complexes for respawns, even worse where there's competition. Theres always contracts in the local areas for the required items if you get fed up though. It's the part of eve that feels most like a traditional mmo, and not really in a good way.
