I never really considered that show to be "scifi" since a lot of the episodes were actually based on real FBI case files.

I only watched that show because Gillian Anderson was freaking hot Big smile

It has aliens, what more do you want? And what else would you label it as.. Paranormal Cold Case Crime Documentary?

I wouldn't consider it fiction if it's apparently based on actual cases.

I guess

1) BSG 2004 (been watching it over the last year, just started season 4, so epic)
2) Star Trek TNG (last three seasons plus the borg/Q episodes)
3) Firefly or Falling Skies. Firefly was great but v shortlived, falling skies is decent, but a little cliched, it has some cool sci-fi concepts though and a perfect setting, so if the cast/crew 'find their groove' for the third season it could become something great.

Other goodies:
Dollhouse is actually quite good in it's entirety. It would have gotten in my top 3 if my top 3 wasn't so long winded already. This show sorta starts out mediocre but rapidly improves towards the end of season 1 and start of season 2 to become a bundle of epic sci-fi goodness. This is another Whedon idea like firefly that got the chop from the network, but luckily they had an extra season and a little more notice, so the show doesn't feel clipped like firefly or SG:U does.

SG:U. I enjoyed this, just wish they had got to do more with it really. Also I found the whole plotline towards the end of the show to be just :wtf:

Red Dwarf: duh

Cowboy Bebop: shuddup it counts

Doctor Who: I could never truly consider this a great sci-fi show, I dunno why, I guess I thought it was just too light. However I gotta say that series 4 and onwards have been awesome, (the opener for season seven was great :D) and I'd probably rate it quite highly these days.

The Walking Dead: Zombies are science! If you care to refute that, a portion of the show involved a scientist using a computer so that's sci-fi right there.

There should be a rather awesome pic here

Well, if we can throw in anime syfy.

1 Outlaw Star (hands down the best syfy anime ever.)
2 Trigun
3 Lensman
4 8th Man After (OVA series)

Notice how Cowboy Bebop isn't on this list. It's okay but it's not worth my top list of any sort.

Then Titanic would be considered Steam Punk since there is a steam engine based on that logic.

Edit: I apologize for the double post and no, there isn't an excuse for it. My brain doesn't think too far ahead when I get ideas. Not sure if there's a way to delete this one. Trust me, it will not happen again.

Just to ring in on a couple comments. X-Files is drama, sci-fi, horror, mystery, thriller according to wikipedia etc which I believe is correct in this instance.

Ehhhhh.... Titanic is NOT steampunk lol, but it is Victorian which is one element for steampunk. The other element is alternate history brought on by the first computer developed in 1822, where it had been taken seriously and widely used leading to great scientific discoveries etc.. As an aristocrat of the independent state of Caledon, I take my steampunk RP seriously Pirate
But I know you were being tongue in cheek about it.

Night of the living dead is horror.

Think I missed reading a few posts tl;dr lists.
Comments are good though :D

Oh whyyyyyy did they cancel sg universe?!?!?!!???

Because listening to a bunch of Canadians whine and argue as they blunder through space isn't very entertaining. P

Why did the chicken cross the road?
Because he didn't want to go into eternal stasis?

Ah well, I thought it was good for another season. Most of the first season was character building, though a few characters were just flat out stupid. Hey but they killed off characters in that show so there was yet still hope.

Of course Firefly was the true tragedy when it comes to cancellations. Gotta luv those 6 shooters in space :D

And thus prooving my point that The Walking Dead is NOT syfy.

I agree Firefly is a show that could have gone for much longer than it did. The whole space western theme kinda made sense and the chemistry between the characters was spot on.

Syfy isn't scifi, it's wrestling and reality shows. P

For me, I'd say

Stargate:SG1 - currently working on Season 5, will probably get to watching SGA and SGU eventually
Firefly
Dr. Who.

I watched some BSG, I'm really not sure if it was the old or new one, but I could never get through the first episode of the first season. it just didn't have the hook I needed.

I haven't even heard of a lot of the scifi shows mentioned here. I'll definitely have to check them out soon!

Ummm well BSG classic has 70's hair and BSG new has early 21'st century hair. Less disco too.

The BSG w/o disco, well was a bit campy early on. It gets dark and gritty further into the seasons. BSG:Disco was campy all the way through (even more so BSG:1980, too campy), but my fav sci-fi show as a kid, next to ST:O and Space 1999.1

I don't think it was, they might have claimed some of it was, but then again Hollywood is notorious for labeling just about anything a true story.

The show had aliens, alien viruses, alien parasites, spaceships, ghosts, alien ghosts, sociopathic clone children, cults, shapeshifters, tibetan elemental monsters, zombies, monstrous fungal creatures. Occasionally there were episodes very much lodged in reality like the Jersey Devil episode where the monster turns out to be feral people living in the woods but for the most part it was crazy **** all the time. The show tapped into so many genres of sci-fi outside of the regular space opera stuff that it really had something for everyone. Probably why it lasted 9 seasons.

*takes a large draw on his pipe*

Whats that you say, speak up boy !! or **** off.

*takes another draw on the pipe and sends winston off to get his slippers*

Now Sci-Fi, when i were a lad.... it wasnt this newfangled stuff with cowboys you have today... oh no.... let me tell you.....

\swooshing weirdy warpy cut scene\

The only thing i HAD when i were small was a white Parlaphone record player with the numbers 33,45 and 78 on it.
The only thing i could find that would make sense on it was a Double 12 inch album of 33 RPM called Jeff Waynes - The War of the Worlds.
It was BLISS - BLISS i tell you.

When i started out in Technology we had
DR WHO
and i hid many times behind my sofa asking my sister what was happening, i can tell you.

and a little show called Star Trek had me hooked (Ohura - mainly)

Then came
Space 1999
and the non bastardised
Battlestar Galactica

In the movies i watched
Star Wars - THE ORIGINAL 4th EPISODE YOU YOUNG HOODIES WOULDNT UNDERSTAND.

I found later that i enjoyed
The Black Hole

Then i believe i took the full force of the puppets of DOOM
Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet - oh i dooooo love the Mysterons, and Joe 90
There was also the Terrahawks, Mysterious Cities of Gold and lots of cartoony puppetry amore.

Then it went all...... blurry.

But generally got better.

1) Audio of Jeff Waynes Musical - War of the Worlds
2) Logans Run
3) Acorn Electron Version of Elite

"caught on fire a little bit, just a little."

"Delinquents, check, weirdos, check, hippies, check, pillheads, check, freaks, check, potheads, check .....gangs all here!"

I love Science, it gives me a Hadron.
