The new catalyst paint jobs have shown their face on Buckingham.

Will we really need a thousand duplicate stat ships all over market and variations tabs for each paintjob?
Seems like its a big mess waiting to happen.

That looks like it could be done with a simple slider for primary and secondary colors. No need for piles of ship variations.

Is that how they are showing up, as subcategory variations in the market?

No special BPO's or other support/manufacturing structure, or entries in the NEX?

I agree, looks like something you can easily customise like some other games. Very interesting to see what they come up with, now if only you could put your corp's logo on the side...

No, they are treated as normal variations. No extra tab. They are viewable in TQ right now, they just don't have skins. Yet they are just duplicates of the t1 with a new description.
They fill up the market table. A subcategory would help the mess.

I liked when Amarr ships were actually gold.

Custom paint jobs for units in game goes back to the 1990s. I see no reason why it should be a problem today.

Bwwwwaaa, my Eve is changing. I want all the ships to look the same. *tears*

I like the new ship color changes. Adds another dynamic to the game. How you say? Certain color ships might be more expensive, or rarer.

Yes, we should be able to put corp/alliance logo on our ships. I hope they implement that.

Can we have golden retrievers again. Killing space dogs was fun.

The problem I'm seeing is how they are presented. Its not some item you can add like a rig to change your ship. Its really a brand new ship. With possible (but not used) different stats.
I'm worried every ship will cause market pollution as each ship needs to be duplicated in this system. Unlike a small, med large paint "rig" so to speak that could be used for any ship cutting down on ad nauseam.

They will not implement it in that way. They already learned their lesson on that one.

A simple 'Customise' button with sliders for different colours would suffice on each ship, remember those older games where they had a main colour and 2 highlight colours? Same idea, really. That way, you can buy any ship, and then customise its colours. When you sell it, it could go back to a set 'standard' colour, or go coloured. 30 seconds later, you can have it re-customised again for yourself.

I have nothing against complete custom colors. I fully indorse it. Though I think to have any quality it would have to be more than just two sliders.
Such as T'amber's samples http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s260/MrOosterman/facebookpropaganda4.jpg
Yet CCP has stated it want to avoid silly stuff such as pink ships or dongs. And corporation colors seems to be the first wave. I just don't like how it looks like it will be presented in the data. As individual ships.

Would ruin the art direction, not to mention shaders are a lot more complex than mere colours. From a discusion on ship customisation in the CSM minutes.

Personally I like the route CCP is going down, ie. several pre-defined skins, and creating different versions of each ship (from what little I know of the render engine, this is by far the easiest option). Remember, this is the earliest incarnation, distribution / creation and the market interface are completely unknown at this point.
