Sorry, don't mean to be rude and that was ambiguous.

What I meant was that your conclusion was drawn on the assumption that most people don't use the feature, not that you were casting my vote literally to remove it.

Yeah sorry my assumption is really this, purely for the reason that I don't see what it does for most people as it is really just a tool for repeating oneself, and overall from all the chat statistics I have at my disposal, the average chatter isn't really repeating themselves so much that they would use this feature - at least not repeating themselves as much within a short period of time that it would go quicker to retype their sentence compared to finding it in the "history list".

Hence, I would put the users of the feature into the category of posting the same thing very often - aka spammers of varying degrees, be it every 20 seconds or 30 minutes.

Pilots can definitely change my view of this feature assuming it can be described to me how it can be beneficial in a non-spam/macro way. Unfortunately until then I will most likely keep thinking maybe it at the moment is doing more damage than good.

Feel free to enlighten me how you use it, if in a different way from my views. But then, there's fare more efficient ways to remove the spam/bots posting every 20s so I'd happily have that done over removing a feature that is used by real pilots Smile

I usually use it when I'm not logged in on one of my alts, then I log in, and I need the link on that client. I "spam" it in corp chat so the alt can have the link.

complain about the order, not the feature!P

At some point I was just going to fix the order because it annoyed me when I was using this... all of you that are not Chribba, don't worry, I'm not going to remove this feature just because I feel like it (I don't), but if someone at CCP who deals with spammers wants it gone I guess we could remove it, but I don't think there are any plans for it now Smile

EVE chat has some nice little features like that (italics, bold, and underline are in there too), but I think it could use some more functionality.

/convo CHARNAME
/warpto OBJECTID (ex. P1M1S1, P1B1, Jita)
/contract CHARNAME
/contract CORPNAME
/pubcontract
/isk CHARNAME ISK#
/speed SPEED

Basically make it like a command line for EVE.

Blatant alt posting? In my EVE? It's more likely than you think.

the order is actually kind of confusing, and once I was going to try to fix it, but then decided people can just repeat until they get the correct one (since the only complaints I've "heard" about it have been inside my own head P )

This drives me nuts but I didn't want to bring it up before in case nobody else had noticed... I'll file a defect on Monday Big smile

I use this feature to repeat things I have said in chat. Lol

But seriously: using Crtl+Up is easier and faster than opening the fleet window, switching to Fleet Advert tab, dragging the fleet name to chat. Using CTRL+Up is easier and faster than typing an item's name and right-clicking to auto link, then selecting the item from the list of one item. Using CTRL+Up is faster (and less frustrating) than trying to drag a station name from a station info window (to only get “Minmatar market hub” instead of the actual station name), or trying to drag a station name from the assets window, etc.

So here are the occasions where I use CTRL+Up to repeat myself:

  1. Posting fleet invite in Alliance chat every half hour
  2. Posting a long instruction line in fleet so e.g.: recent joiners know that we are mining Scordite, it goes in the Division 1 hangar of the Orca, watch what number tag you get and mine only the rocks that are tagged with your number, or rocks marked X.
  3. Posting a system or station name that the new fleet members will be asking for
  4. Repeating the kill order for rats in PvE encounters
  5. Posting the Teamspeak invite URL

Using the chat history is slightly faster than all the alternatives.

Consider adding it to the shorcuts menu under "General"?
It'd be nice if I can just re-assign it from ctrl+up/dn arrow to just up/dn arrow.

One line of code? nothing in Eve is just one line of code, if a fix is attempted it'll break something else, probably something important like not dividing by zero.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I'm glad to see there are actually good uses for it, I would not have thought about like the FC one.

Still assume it is very much used by macros/spammers though which is bleh.

Fc 's repeating a message as people join fleet. For example. Eve is also a coop game. There are plenty of reasons you might want to repeat a message to friends.

it's also very handy in the help channel where people tend to ask the same questions again and again (mostly after patches)
