Using a cloaking device to detect passive target locks?

Can you use a cloaking device to detect if you've been "passively" targeted (without the lock showing up on your overview, by someone using a passive targeter)?

I.e. does a "passive" target lock prevent the use of a cloaking device, or does the activation of a cloaking device by the target break a "passive" target lock?

The lock keeps you from cloaking, whether you see it or not.

Of course, so would being to close to something in space... so not the most reliable method.

If you're too close, you'll get a warning message stating the offending object.

If you're targeted, you'll get a different warning, about being targeted.

So it's a sensible detection method.

However, I don't get what you're trying to do in detecting passive locks?

Ah.... never got the warning so didn't know.

So yeah, would work fine... for... detecting passive locks...

OP, why?

I can think of a number of circumstances where knowing if someone had passive targeted you would be useful, but in none of them would cloaking to find out be at all practical.

Paranoia. Big smile

It could be used to get some advance warning that your cargo has been scanned.

Mainly, I was just curious. It's a not-so-obvious use of the cloaking device.

Cargo scanner has animation of brown beam landing on your ship and also there is a sound if you have audio on.
Those are good clues.
Other is that you try to cloak every few secs which can be problematic on some ships because of speed reduction when cloak activates. You wont be able to cloak if locked even with passive targeter.

Train industrial ships to 5

Train racial Transport ships at least 4 -having top navigation skills it's a +, related fittings skills at 5 it's a plus (4 is already ok)

Fit Cvert Ops Cloaking Device and tank/cargo mods accordingly to systems SS you will travel in, eventually warp stabs (not necessary if you learn how to use your star map information)

Invulnerable in high sec, close to impossible to catch in low sec cut expect some awesome smart bombing battleships some day, chances are thin if you know how to set your route but this can happen.
Never jump blind on a null gate, create your own off gate safes in between 180/300 km (never aligned with some gate, sun or station), once it's done use your in game star map to avoid hot points and again, stuff can happen but if you do a minimum effort you're almost impossible to catch everywhere in new Eden.

Start by (edit) not afk piloting in between Jita and Rens it's a good start too.

I've seen ships using Cargo Scanners on gates and outside stations...

It's not even a "brown beam" so much as a spotlight.

It's pretty obvious when someone is scanning you, if you actually look at the ship instead of playing spreadsheets-in-space =)
