So please help me understand why there are so many posts about miners getting ganked. Really, I dont understand, I've never been ganked, my alts have never been ganked, I've never even seen anyone get suicide ganked.

Do people go to high population systems and ask to be ganked?

And is it not common sense, in a game with such open pvp, to take a ship with barely any tank, AWAY from high pop areas?

I'm almost certain these miners are some kind of myth or forum conspiracy.

Not sure i've ever seen a post from a miner complaining about being ganked in W&T. In GD, sure, before the buff, you'd get idiots posting, but that goes without saying in GD. The main complaint wasn't about being ganked, btw, it was about the low cost for the gankers. If your gank ship costs you 1.2M and you're able to take out 400M ships (as poorly tanked as they were), people saw it as a problem. CCP decided as well that it should cost a bit more, but didn't make it impossible to gank them.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

Yeah, considering that ganking is a tactic I figured it was best to post this here.

I have been ganked 2 times. Once about 3 years ago (my sheer ignorance, I just assumed I was safe in a .9 system, had no tank, and paid the price), and the other last year (hit the lottery of luck. Went to kitchen to pour a coffee, came back, myself and 2 other wrecks (dessies) floating in the belt, a 3rd guy looting everything).

Other than that I have never had a problem, but then I spend most of my time at keyboard, and with an attempt at tank on my ship. ;)

Well.. SC ganks about 200 indies a month and we aren't nearly the most industrious at that..

Go mine in a hulk in Umokka, that should get you ganked quickly enough.

Been ganked once in 2 years, that was in a pre-buff retriever in which I was afk mining. It cost next to nothing and the tank was enough for rats and that's it, I couldn't exactly complain.

I don't know just how the buff to barges has effected ganks, other than increasing the cost of doing them somewhat, but haulers carrying way too much are still the most at risk.

I have heard of a few corp mates being ganked, but I have only ever seen the aftermath of a ganking, I jumped into a system and saw 8 destroyer wrecks and 1 elite mining barge wreck, so I salvaged out and looted all the wrecks and pressed on.
So post buff I would say CCP did a good job buffing the new mining barges and exhumers.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

I've tested fits in PYFA and EFT and I haven't found a realistic fit that couldn't be popped by a T2 fit Tornado with 2 cycles. Is there something I'm missing?

what, not relevant enough? or have you decided to make it personal?

Freighters. Their base EHP is approximately 120k without skills or implants. A single Tornado could not pop these in two cycles or in sufficient time to destroy the freighter before Concord responds in a high sec system.

the discussion was about miners, not freighters. i'm aware i can 't solo pop a freighter without a wardec. is there some miner fit that can survive two tornado volleys?

A well fit Orca certainly can. A member of our alliance has an Orca fit that gives him 160k EHP as well as some combat/ewar drone capability. He primarily uses this for hauling but it can mine as well.

Hey folks,
I'm just coming back to Eve been gone a few years. Please refresh my memory. What is the point of a suicide gank? goes the ganking pilot get something other then salvage and a shiny kill mail?

Hmm.... Not sure if troll?...

Yeah, the new Mackinaw. It's quite easy to hit over 40k EHP.

1st question: will this tornado have second shot? Concord does his job pretty fast.

And options:
- ECM drones (disable tornado after first shot until CONCORD finished his job)
- ASB can do the trick. Start ASB after first hit and restore your tank before second one. (don't know if you can fit it anyway into your ship)

I've done some extensive testing with the ASB on exhumers, and they are NEVER as effective as adding more resists. At best, a medium ASB might rep about 3,000 EHP between shots. A pure resist fit can add 25k+ EHP to the ship.

Buffer fit always wins. Suicide ganks are built solely for alpha blast. When this is done properly, you will be dead before you get a chance to flip the switch.

3 answers at least for this one (probably more like 50):

1. People scan ships for fittings that might drop. A deadspace CNR might drop over a billion in fittings, so it's a gamble on profits to gank it.

2. You might have an enemy that refuses to fight. The only way you can pop him is with alts or mercs that he does not suspect.

3. Mining competition. Kill the competition and your prices go up.

My story:

Our alliance was approaching 1000 kills a long time ago. I thought it was my duty to be the #1000 kill, so I ganked a Hulk on a gate. I used a Tempest with Sentry Drones if I recall. It turns out that our kill board had some double posts...and that night it reset them at downtime. I was only the 998th kill :(
By then, someone else had hit 1000.

You dont keep up with the news do you? Apon the destroyer buff a few months ago, destroyers can now easily project 600+ dps at the cost of under 10m. You couple this with 1-2 other buddies and you can easily kill a hulk before concord shows up. Keep in mind this is before the mining barge buff... It was a huge huge problem as you can losw 20m in dessies to kill a 250m hulk... Let me show you a little something something.

http://killboard.nullisecunda.com/?a=kill_related&kll_id=67257

its hard to read but me and 2 other destoryers killed 15 hulks in a single day.
