What is wrong with the Buy Order section of the Market?

I just started playing Eve again recently after a long layoff and noticed an issue with the market. I was attempting to sell something on the market and I clicked on one of the buy orders listed under the "Buyers" heading in the market. However, instead of selling the item in my inventory, I purchased the item instead. Now, I'm aware that scamming is not against the rules in this game, however this seems more of a glitch with the market than a scam. Or is there a way to bug out the market in this way that is acceptable?

It's not a glitch: you might just need some time to get used to it.

The heading that the item is sitting in is not the relevant part here.

To sell something you need to right-click on the thing that you own, then sell.

To buy something, you click on the item anywhere else, and the default option is popped: buy.

In short: Sell from YOUR inventory. Buy from anywhere else.

To be honest, it's been like this for as long as I can remember. If you think about it, there are some likely functional reasons that this is the case, like if you have the skills for remote selling/buying, and the way buy orders are executed (best sell price always at location, regardless of chosen sell price).

Eve is about the journey.  If you are so focused on making money, that you insist on having the tools to make it be made as autonomous and easy as possible, then you are never going to have as much fun as I will.

How is it not a glitch if the things listed under "Buyers" are not Buyers?

yes the buyers list are buyers but when reading the list use it as a guide of where u want to sell things.

example if someone is buying something at that station for 5 isk and another for 6 isk if you sell at the first station ur item will sell for 5 isk but if u travel u can sell it for 6 isk ect. kinda hope that made a bit of sence

So does that mean I just experienced some wierd glitch? Because I was 100% certain the item I clicked on was listed under "Buyers".

If you right click on buy orders, all it brings up is show info/location. You can not choose what buy order to fill, eve uses a broker system. If you double click (which i assume you did) on a buy order you copy the buy order (i dunno what functionality that has) thus buyingit yourself if it is fillable. You are not filling the order in any way shape or form, simply putting one the same up yourself. Often it will not be fillable (as the order you clicked on would have bought the sell) and you will get an error message but sometimes circumstance will make it fillable and you buy the item.

Selling is done by right click -> sell.

As stated above - EVE uses a broker system. To sell an item, select it in IN YOUR INVENTORY, NOT IN THE MARKET WINDOW, right click, sell. The price listed in the following window is the highest buy-order available at your location. Either sell your item for this price or use advanced, enter another price and time to live for this order - and your putting up a sell order yourself.
Please note that there is no way to choose a specific buy order to sell to or a specific sell order to buy from - your item is in all cases sold to the highest buy order and your always buying from the lowest sell order listed in the market window.
So there is no need to right-click a specific buy- or sell-order other than to modify your self created ones.

For the start its a good choice to sort the sell-order part of the market for prices, bottom-up - this way, cheapest sell orders are shown first. Sort the buy-order part for prices top-down, so the highest buy-order is shown first. This way you get to know directly, what you will get for your items or what you have to pay for when buying.
