Happened in my area a few days ago. Can't imagine going out like this.

Link (no graphic images or anything)

EDIT:

Here's a topic for discussion- Should the teen that was being chased by the cops, be held responsible for the death of the pedestrian struck by one of the cops chasing him?

Last I check any accident while driving with lights and sirens is the emergency vehicle operators fault. (Law) could be only the state where I got certed, but they made that painfully clear to me when I was learning/going through the course. It might be an accident, but it was the cops fault unless the suspect through the guy in front...

Cops tried to pull something similar to my brother in law and myself on the way to his wedding of all days. Stated it was he who hit them while they were en-route, driving on the wrong side of the road and hit us head on running a red light.... NOPE sorry fellas now pay the insurance.

i thought it was the cop's fault unless drivers didn't yield to them o_O. could vary between states, though. idk.

It wasn't a pedestrian, it was a bum... the real life equivalent of the high sec miner.

When you get to hell, be a dear and save me a spot in the shade?

To get back on topic, there's been debates in the past whether high-speed chases are worth it, given the risk to the community.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2010-04-22-police-chase-deaths_N.htm
"Innocent bystanders account for one-third of those who are killed in high-speed police chases"

And the numbers might be seriously under-reported.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

If his lights and siren was on, unless you were sitting still (as you should have been), then you were lucky to have that technicality work in your favor. If you were still moving... Evil

There was a similar incident in Liverpool some years ago where a police car hit someone and his upper body ended up smashing through the window into the police car whilst his legs ended up 150' down the road....

The police did the unfortunate gentleman for breaking and entering AND leaving the scene of an accident.

After the amount of times i've nearly been ran over by the local police i'm inclined to say No. I swear these guys only flick on the lights when they are trying to kill me. seriously no lights on at all, cruising up the road at 30 mph, the second i'm halfway across the road lights on gunning it at 60mph, just missing me then turning the lights off again, i hate those guys.

Actually we did begin to pull over to the right... Then he turned left (once again coming head on. We then swerved left and he hit us on the passenger side (me) the length of our car. He shouldn't have been in the on coming lane though, as the flow of traffic was fine. Emergency vehicles are suppose to only go into on coming traffic around a light or if it's completely stalled.
And you're still liable with lights and sirens on.

Something like this happened in downtown San Antonio, Texas a few years back. High speed pursuit, cop car couldn't make the turn, got on the sidewalk and took out two Wisconsin tourists. I asked my San Antonio PD cop friend about it, and he said that that car wasn't even the one pursuing. Everybody heard about the chase on the radio, and they all got excited and started burning through downtown to try to catch up with the action. Pretty fricking irresponsible. Not saying all cops are irresponsible, but those guys sure were.
