Yes, all cap skills at V. Can't perma-run LAR tho.

ok. Once you get Controlled Bursts trained up, it may be possible to perma-run your LAR.

Gotcha. It just wasn't clear to me which you were using. I would still suggest replacing the nano plating with another T2 active hardener. Pick whichever of the applicable resists is lowest and use that type. For example, if you are currently using 1 EM and 1 Therm hardener, add another Therm. Using an adaptive mod gives you kin/exp resists that you don't need while giving you less total additional resist to the EM+Therm damage that you DO need. By using the therm hardener instead, you will have slightly lower EM resist, but much better Therm resist.

You're right, but my armor is chewed thru moderately fast as well. With hardeners on.

Definitely sounds to me like the resist profile is gonna be your biggest help, then. As others suggested, maybe going to 4 or 5 total hardeners would be a good idea for a starting point. Turn your ship into a brick wall that resists the incoming damage while you whittle down the rats. You won't be burning through the missions in record time, but that's probably not a super-realistic thing to expect from a T1 BS anyway. Smile

I use 2x hardeners for each damage type. Plus the large repper. That usually stops enough damage for me to kill things before I run out of cap (about 5 minutes if perma running).

However, I also have T2 lasers, which should be your priority before worrying about Navy or pirate ships.

if you take a few hours to research good systems and LP items, you can easily make ~10-12mil per hour with lvl3s.

I should buy an Ishtar.

That's still 100 hours. If someone plays for say 2 hours a day, that's almost 2 months.
You could try scanning down a 3/10 or 4/10 DED site, they can sometimes have rats which drops an item perhaps worth 50mill or more, in high-sec. Problem is there are lots of players doing it, so it's a gamble of your time.

You need to learn about triggers, when to shoot them and when not.

^^^ this foremost

Also, do you just sit still or do you keep moving at top speed? Even in a battleship, you will get a noticeable reduction in inbound DPS if you are moving.

After the scramblers, shoot the BC for the fastest reduction of inbound DPS. In some missions, the scramblers/webbers are the triggers, so go for DPS reduction first.

You do understand the guns on an abaddon use twice the cap they do on an apoc? This is why you can't run your tank fully. To get the best out of an abaddon you;

Need perfect cap skills, including controlled burst. Weapon cap use rigs help too.
Need perfect armour compensation and use decent passive hardeners.
Need good t2 light drones to kill the stuff your guns cant track.

To be worthwhile you need t2 large pulse+scorch, otherwise you are screwed by range and need to use beams which in turn have lower dps, worse tracking and are harder to fit.

Don't...never, ever, NEVAH omni tank for mission. For exemple, if you are fighting sansha, then your tank should be only EM/therm. Even if your kinetic and explo resistance are 0, you don't care, because they don't do any kinetic/explosive damage. The only omni tank you should use is a damage control.

Btw, if you are near shuria and need help for a lv4, i can help you. My alt's name is 69natasha69

I have an alt that is amarr and I have tried missioning with him.

He is no-where as skilled as this toon in running lvl 4's and doesn't make nearly the isk. Caldari *really* is PvE ez-mode.

However, my amarr toon has been getting better.

First of all, you need drones. Not any drones but LIGHT drones. Get those babies skill-maxxed out as much as possible. You NEED drones to attack/peel off small rats. You will also tend to lose drones more than a Caldari would so bring extras to pump out. In short, scrap your big drones...carry many small ones.

Second, Unlike Caldari where all you have to do is point your ship in a direction and spam the missle button with only which missles you need to fire and trying to count salvoes so you don't waste any...you can't do that with Amarr. You need flexability...and that means an afterburner or a mwd. I know...I know you've heard people disparage that on a BS...but, in my experience, after he started equipping one it made missions easier.

I'm sure this is a duhhhh for you but make sure you have all types of crystals for different ranges and swap em out.

Since you can't select your damage type you need to mission in areas with the rats more suspecpible to EM/Therm damage. Don't go missioning in Caldari space for example. Amarr empire is good :)

I hear the Nightmare is a beast in missions though I have yet to try it. My Amarr alt scored a couple Nightmare BPCs from missioning in Sansha space and got them up to Hisec and cooked one into existance...and is just waiting for skills to fly it and test it out. I hear it is something though even better in lvl 4's than Caldari ships.

I fell into my current setup....taking over my daughter's Caldari toon because she didn't want to play much anymore and also have 'my' own Amarr toon...and it really makes isk making ez. Nuela does PvE...other toon does everything else...though I can't resist trying to PvE with the Amarr toon just to see how different it is.

So I was looking at the nightmare, shield tanking. Grrrrrr. How would a a navy apoc do on l4s?

I used to use a Navy Apoc and it was a blast, but you have to be careful about mission triggers. I jumped into an Abaddon and found that one to be far better suited with T2 MPLs.

Shields you should not worry about unless you are running a Nightmare. Armor is going to be your focus. Make sure your cap skills are solid to support it, build around the two primary resists for that mission and make sure to pay careful attention to the resist holes you have. Once the tank is set to handle, build your DPS. I found with a full rack of MPL2's running Scorch, I could fit 2 / 3 damage or tracking mods and leave the rest to tank, with mids for recharge and a SB or Tracking Comp if I felt quirky. By being careful which triggers I hit, Lv4's were not an issue.

I only retired the Abaddon once I hit Marauder 4 and felt comfy in a Paladin and Vargur.
