Should I continue training for amarr ships for PvP .. or?

Had to reply to this thread since I'm Gallentee who flies mostly Amarr for PvP.

People fault the Amarr BC's, but for me my mainstay PvP ship is a well fitted Harby. With Heavy Pulse lazers, a MWD scram and web, plus a heavy tank it can tackle most mid sized ships if handled correctly - and that last statement is critical - If handled correctly.
For the Harby to be effective you need to be close up and personnel...at short range it can bring almost 600DPS to the party, yet have an EHP of 80k, and still be carrying ECM drones if you need to break away, or stop the other ship doing damage.

It is that mix of defence and attack, plus the extra safety of drones on top that can make the Harby so dangerous.

The downside is that to be able to fly Amarr (Harby) really well you need a batch of skills trained to high level - something that you don't need to do with the Drake for example.

But if you do stick with it, there are plenty of good Amarr PvP ships out there:

Others have added how good the punisher now is - and I can testitfy to that too, and don't forget the Coercer which can quickly dispatch enough firepower to make a good hull to work from.

Once you get to cruiser hulls the pick is the Arbitrator - and above that the highly rated (by everyone) Curse.

At BS level the Arma is a fantastic, cheap, close range killer.... the Abaddon a heavy hitter in solo or fleet work .

At the top of the Amarr tree for me is also the Absolution.... which is a BS killer in BC form and about as tough as any ship you are ever going to come up against in the Eve universe.

So, don't right off Amarr for PvP - just be prepared to accept that you are in for a lot of training to get the best out of Amarr PvP ships

I am an almost exclusively Amarr small gang pilot (I recently started flying some Gallente) and they are in a great place balance wise right now.

Don't worry about forum perceptions too much. There are a lot of great ships in all of the races and you won't be crippled starting your train on ANY race these days - not to mention you will eventually get them all if you play long enough. Most importantly find the style of gameplay that appeals to you and have fun with it. The ships part will work itself out as you gain experience and knowledge.

As many have already said, every race has some great ships. Amarr although less popular do have some great PVP ships. They are lesser used because they are harder ships to learn to fly well, not because they are inferior. The only advice I can give you is, if you like Amarr, learn to PVP with Amarr ships.

Each race has good ships in all classes. Some of the best are Amarr but they generally take longer to master. A well piloted Curse can make a carrier pilot nervous. The Amarr ships have a much different feel then most other races ships. If you learn to PVP in one of the others, you may find yourself getting frustrated when switching back. Tactics that work well in PVP for caldari ships do not necessarily transfer well to Amarr. Some PVP skills are universal, but the ships feel very different. Amarr has a tougher learning curve for PVP, but once you find your grove you will do very well.

When flying a drake I used to only really worry about fighting Harby's.......kinda tells you something about harby's :)

Amarr PVP is fine if you are willing to invest the time/sp into it....and it is very rewarding when the tears flow becasue you killed someone in an amarr ship 'that shouldn't be able to do that!'

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.

Executioner, Crusader, Punisher, Harby, Zealot just some ships of Amarr ship line that are absolutely great, but there are so many more. Probably the second best race aligning as much good ships for pvp/pve than Minmatar.

@OP you can't go wrong training/using Amarr ships then next cruiser/bc rebalance will probably make them even better.

There is a rebalance thing going on.

Might be some really good amarr ships after that. to early to tell.

You are looking the wrong videos. Get into a Slicer, go nano + Pulse + Scortch and learn to fly it manually... then you will see how great Amarr ships can be while kiting people from 15km and melting the **** out of them while still being in control to run away if things tend to go bad (e.g. the blob is incomming).

Amarr ships are fine, they have their issues and they don't necessarily excel in solo PVP. They're a ***** to fit and require more SP to operate than the other races, on average. Fly them with pride, make them work, exploit their strong points and you'll do fine.
