Tengu missile skills.

Should I get most of the heavy missiles/missile skills to V before I fly it? My current plan is to get all the relevant ones to 4. There's a few V's with around 7 days of training and a few more that would take 16 days or so to finish. I'm working through skills on my Per/Wil remap before I swap to Int/Mem to finish up my Tengu skills. I plan to use it as a mission runner.

Assault Missiles = III
Guided Missile Precision = IV
Heavy Missile Specialization = III
Missile Bombardment = IV
Missile Launcher Operation = V
Missile Projection = IV
Rapid Launch = IV
Target Navigation Prediction = III
Warhead Upgrades = III

Thanks.

Level 4 is adequate, though you will really want to get the two range skills to 5 ASAP: Missile Bombardment and Missile Projection.

Call me crazy but if you are only using heavy missiles the range is less of a concern..unless you are doing some long range combat in a tengu. I've always seen bombardment and projection more suited for rockets, hams, or torps where range is much more important. I'd train hams before maxing out those two..unless you have them already then do the longer ones warhead upgrades or target navigation predictions, rapid launch too which I believe is a seven days is also good for all missile systems.

Don't forget Caldari Offensive Systems V (only a rank 1 skill with massive bonuses on your subsystem) and at least Weapon Upgrades IV (for T2 BCU). Depending on your fitting skills you may want to go for Advanced Weapon Upgrades to save grid (put your desired ship fitting into EFT and see if power and CPU stay within limits).

Yeah heavies have decent range without the bombardment and projection skills to 5, I still have them at 4 and have ~90km range on my Tengu. However, if your going to fit HAMs then getting both to 5 will add about 6km iirc not including the range rigs. Persoanlly, with those skills, I'd get WU, TNP and HMS to 4 and then push GMP to 5.

GMP, TNP and a set of rigors is really important for a Tengu as it allows them to kill web/scram frigates quicker.

I'd train FoF missiles as well, they tend to be rather handy now and then.

Thanks for the advice. I've already got WU at 5 already for fitting purposes.

Are Hams worth training into? I've done nothing but long range missiles with a drake so far and that's worked out well.

For a Tengu I don't see any reason to ever use them since it seems the heavy missile kiting tengu is pretty popular right now for PvP and no one in their right mind uses HAMs for PvE. Also if you do get close enough for HAMs to be of any use you'll get destroyed by any decently fit loki or even a cane.

HAM tengu can be used for missions that do not have a lot of frigates and far off targets. the dps advantage is not that big though.

edit: then there is also 0.0 plexing.

I should buy an Ishtar.

heavy dmg with correct setup and implants 760 dps i think hams come out at over 900 but you wont hit anything with hams heavys will benefit from smaller explosive radius and can lay 2/3rd of there full dmg on frigs depending on setup.

don't forget that you also need different implants so if you are running with HML implants, the HAM DPS will be even lower.

I should buy an Ishtar.

i dont run with hams but have on good authority that the ham setup with proper implants will generate around 950 dps

It will, but keep in mind that you won't get that on anything below a battlecruiser, and that you will find yourself constantly moving to get into range.

The advantage of HML on a Tengu is their tremendous range (I think mine is something like 114 km), so you don't have to go chasing targets.

Also, get good stock of HAMs, as I seem to recall spewing them at a rate of fire in the 2 second area.
