Open mining operation with Orca support

After 1,5 years break I finally have time to resume the open mining operations.
For those who do not know what this means:

- I boost and haul with my Orca (about +30% mining yield)
- anybody can join the fleet
- I pay miners a fix amount for m3 as soon as haul each can, the fix amount is the average of the values of the different ores minus a 15% that I keep for myself (which is still a good deal as you get a +30% boost and don't have to waste time with hauling)

The next open mining operation will be this Thursday at 19:30 EVE time in Metropolis (Minmatar space).
If you wish to join just send me an in game mail to confirm your presence.
If you can't join this time but you want to be kept posted about future mining ops subscribe the Minnie Miners mailing list (in game).

Seems like this is a good deal...

So why is my Eve paranoia screaming in a voice strangely similar to Admiral Akbar...

probably because your paranoia (which in EVE is a good thing by itself) is not supported by a good risk analysis. What do you think you can lose? your ship? do you think hi sec gankers need to organize an operation to find hulks to gank?
anyway, I did this several times over one year ago, at that time I used a mailing list to keep poeple informed, it's called Minnie Miners, it is still active and there are about 100 people still signed up. You are free to join it and send a message to ask people if they ever lost anything in one of my ops, maybe somebody will answer you (I do not guaranteee that, in fact so far only 2 people answered to me confirming their participation, I assume most people have found better things to do in the past year)

Come in a T1 Barge the first time around. No rigs, cheaply fitted. Presumably others will show up, and talk in the op chat channel about how this has been done before, with this guy (I remember he has talked about running mining ops before, although I've never participated in one of his) and has not been scammy.

Next time, once you know it's for real, come in a T2 Exhumer with more efficient fittings. T2 fit, T2 crystals and T1 medium-sized rigs aren't that expensive.

If you assume he uses accurate prices for the ore, it is a good deal if you don't have alternative access to an orca. You will be getting 9-10% more ore depending on the link down time from hauing, and avoid the need to haul it yourself. Note that even mining director 5 will give you the same net ore, but you would then need to haul it and keep a second character active to give the squad leader boost. Note also that a maxed orca will provide about a 70% boost if you can find one.

Subscribed to that mailing list and going to check out not this upcoming op, but the next one. :) Got some barges cooling their jets in Caldari space, so I might just fly on over.

I don't mine [any more], but this sounds like a great idea for those interested in doing something different or for those just getting into their first mining barges. What's to lose?

I forgot to mention, I have an alt to haul, so no down time of the Orca boost.
And if many people show up the alt can even use a Fenrir to haul

Cheers Wilhelm, that helps.

Only 2 pilots showed up yesterday, we mined together a couple of hours, a good chance to know people. Next op might be next week, I hope more people show up.

Btw forget what I said about the Fenrir, yesterday I found out that the Fenrir can't load stuff from the Orca corp hangar, so my alt will haul in a transport.

On a sidenote, that thing sucks .. freighters should be able to load stuff from the orcas corp hangar. Afterall its industry "capital" vessel so it should have some cargo management capabilities to allow loading like that.

Next open mining operation will be Wednesdqy September 12th at 19:30 EVE time in Caldari space.
Last time I paid 160 isk /m3 of ore, this time it might be a bit higher considering that the reference market is Jita.
Clarification about boost: I give a 10% boost to yield as fleet booster + a -15% cycle time boost given by the Orca (on top of strip miner range boost). The total effect is a +30% yield (mined ore per minute).

No boost interruption for hauling as I have a hauling alt.

If you don't mind, I have a suggestion that may help bringing more people in (such as myself).
Explain with details what are your payments based on. For instance, in Caldari space you said it will be higher than usual. Are you taking Jita prices in? If so, are you talking highest sell, lowest buy, median sell/buy? "Average" doesn't cut it, N isk/m3 doesn't either (what about the different ore types?) What about other locations? And are you attaching values to the corresponding mineral prices or to the raw ore prices only? etc.

I'm only joining if I know I'm better off with you (after these considerations and not just the boost formulas applied) instead of the current mining setup I'm in. However, do feel free to do what you think is best, this is just a suggestion to improve your ops based on my own humble opinion.

I use Grismar ore calculator, I input the mineral prices, I take off 15%. Anything more sophisticated than that would take too much of my time and on top my target are not the players who come because they get a 0,0001% more isk, but those who come to have a chat and spend a nice but of time in company (myself I hardly made any isk out of these ops).

Anyway you have all the data to calculate what is better for you: 160isk /m3 time let's say 2000 m3 per minute (with a hulk) = 19,2 millions isk per hour. If you can ake more by mining and hauling alone then you are better off solo mining.

You're correct, I'm not your target, thanks for clarifying that. Don't get me wrong, I liked the idea anyway and I'm not solo mining so I get what you're looking for. Free bump
