you might want to go back to CoD or WoW.
This game clearly isn't for the likes of you.

No challenge in level 1 missions...I would have thought that wouldn't have needed pointing out...
If you want a challenge, stop looking for it in PvE.
If you want a challenge, go play Ghosts & Goblins or Gradius.

I never whined or complained about the difficulty when I started playing and that was a long time ago, usually made me spend more time researching fittings and asking questions, joining a corp helps a great deal. Some good corp mates may offer to help you out if you are having trouble finishing a mission.

you could go caldari ships its easier for newer players and pve so try a caracal and you'll hit over 50km out, problem solved.

Take this experience of mine (been playing a month).

I was saving to buy a Maller, when I noticed the Arbitrator was cheaper and has a very large drone bay. So I read a guide about drones that told me about bandwidths, ranges, etc...

So I bought the Arbitrator, fitted out with Hammerhead 1 drones, beam laser, quad laser and salvager; and started up on level 2 missions.

My first mission took me up against a bunch of ships. I destroyed all but one, which turned out to be a cruiser (Moa type) with a love of missiles.

It matched speed away from me keeping me at 40km, and my drones could only go to 30km. Two choices, train and wait, or quit and do other missions.

I choose to quit and took other missions.

I then got a mission where I had to destroy more pirates. So off I go and destroy all but one frigate (Merlin type). This one frigate kept at 16km range and I could only hit it with my beam laser, while my 4 Hammerheads kept flying around it doing nowt.

I got on the help channel and was told to use light scout.

So I go back to base, grab some light scout drones (acolytes and hobgoblins), and after a drawn out boring battle, destroy it.

I now have a mixture of medium and light drones in my hanger.

I take another mission, whereby I activate a warp gate and appear in the middle of a disco...no, not a disco, those are a hell of a lot of lasers...on me...I warp out and away from about 7 ships which have torn down to my hull in seconds.

I quit that mission and I go buy 1600mm, boosting my armour from around 1800 to 6000. I have to lose the beam laser as a result.

I then take another mission...hey it's exactly like the one against the Merlin. I destroy all the other ships with ease, except now I don't have a beam laser, but that's okay I have 4 drones on it....hmm, except after 4 minutes they've only just got half its shields down...well, hopefully when the shields are down they'll tear through it...except suddenly the enemy frigates start regenerating and in no time its back to full shield strength.

In disgust I fly back to base, where I could re-quip, but instead quit the mission...then decide to write this...

Looking back I wish I had bought the Maller...

Also I can't help but want to state the obvious...CCP - is this your idea of fun?

If you want instant gratification, go find a weak free to play/pay to win game where you can just kill everything all day long from day one.
Otherwise take the time to train skills up, or make some friends to play with and mission with them.

After a week of reading up on ship fittings, tactics, doing tutorials, etc I find it hard to believe anyone who hasn't cut corners and knows what they're doing would find pve content difficult.

pvp content on the other hand...... Ugh

Only thing I can say OP, and honestly trying not to be a dbag about it, but for all the things that you said went wrong in the mission, I can think of as many things you could have done to make things much easier on you.

I think ship selection had some part to play in it, but there are unknowns in this equation that need to be figured out.

Did you have a webifier on? These can assist in your drones being able to put dps on a ship. The slower the ship, the better your drones hit. I especially do this as I use heavy drones which are really slow.

Were you able to warp into the site at range? Or was there an acceleration gate before the fight? At times (very rare) i will go on a mission where im a lil on edge about what to expect (mainly if the reward and bonus are high, tells you that a fight is on your hands)and whenever this happens, i always warp in at about 70 km to see what im up against as opposed to warping into the middle of a hornets nest.

I can go on. But in all honesty, if this is what makes players quit the game...there own inability to adapt, then EVE is the better for it. Unless of course, you are the type who likes easy squishy things to explode...then we need the not so smart people!

Your still a child in the eyes of the universe

Here is the entire problem...two people have already jumped on and waved the finger at me...

The idea of having a drone carrier, making it armoured and sitting back while drones fight is plausible in theory...if I hadn't chosen that path I would have the Maller by now, and not have experienced this...

It does not take that long to raise combat drones to level 3, just a few hours or so...then you can use the Drone Link Augmentor 1, which would solve your operating range problems.

Sitting back while drones fight is entirely possible in PVE, especially with a drone boat, you just have to train a few skills and do a bit of reading. Good luck.

I think there is some good advice here.

- Using (the right) armor resistance modules and armor repairer, with modules which give you energy (cap) when necessary, to be able to endure the damage better
- Using drone modules to increase damage and range of your drones
- Using propulsion modules to increase your speed

All more or less immediate solutions to your problem.
You'll also improve -a lot- with more skillpoints in drones, especially with drone interfacing giving you +20% damage for drones each skill-level.

You also would have gotten advice like this, with probably a lot less smack talk, if you would've gone to the missions forum and asked:

"I'm trying to do level 2 missions with this ship: [describe what your arbitrator has fitted] and have the following problems: a, b, c. What can I do?"

Not knowing everything in eve isn't shameful, especially as beginner.
Asssuming you know enough already and do things right and the game is at fault if you don't manage to achieve something won't net you very positive responses, though.

Sounds like the game might not be your cup of tea, mate. Eve can be appreciated on many different levels and provide all sorts of challenges but it's all relative.

PS: My GF just ran a bunch of level IIs in a Navitas and did alright lol

So you jump the gun and buy the cheaper ship.

You **** fit said ship (yep **** fit, about all you could do to make it worse is shield tank it)

You have a hard time doing a mission because of said **** fit (man if only we had mods to allow longer drone range or skills etc)

You cry about doing another that, again almost killed your **** fit.

You come to forums to cry?

We understand that other mmos you do not need to think about anything... in eve you kinda do.

Ya shocking some people find thinking not mindless missions fun.

So new players quit the game because they are too dumb to MMO?

Pro tip... this game has multi player :-|

This:

Eve online isn't a roller coaster, the environment is boring as hell to interact with unless you're doing it with people you enjoy spending time with, then it goes from being a boring game to one of the most fun multi player experiences available.

This thread does actually explain how a lot of people don't stick around in EVE.

They're impatient. The OP is a fine example.

You can't do everything straight away, and if you try to you will find it difficult. Ask people and listen to their advice - but get it from several so that you know it's consensus Blink

I cant even start to count the number of L2 missions I have slept or even herp derped threw in frigates and destroyers.

You are in a cruiser, you should be having no problems even in a fail fit. You obviously don't even have the skills to make that cruiser work, just because you can sit in a ship does not mean that you can effectively fly it.

And if you are to impatient to train in to that cruiser and get better, then quit now and join My Little Pony's online. It should be more your speed.

EVE wants new players, but we want the competent and mature ones.

TL:DR

Learn to play and stop being an impatient little brat.

The first time I died to an NPC (it still happens occasionally Ugh) I was like "Y U NO DIE NPC????" in local, I got loll'd at, then given advice on fitting and links to useful stuff, happened the first time I got exploded by another player to Pirate.

Plenty of advice in this thread, would have been better posted in either the mission or ships and module forums though.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

no.every new player that gets into game wants to experience stuff, and fly big ships.and whatever u say or do will never change that.happened to everyone i know.also a little while ago a buddy of mine got ingame and left as fast as he got in.

you dont get into a game to farm the currency, you play a game to have fun.and ccp,eve is no fun for new players, and for not many players for that matter
