New pilot experience
CCP makes sure New pilots understand how to operate the UI but not how to deal with the environments in EVE. But not the true game mechanics. We have corps that can teach it to them but is it actually taught?

I have a ship, let’s say a rifter. How do you explain what a rifter is good for?
Obvious answer in Low and Null is fast tackle, but what does that mean to the new pilot? Nothing, they don’t understand yet the concepts of warp stabilizers, stasis webifier or warp disrupters. Why one is better than the other. What modules do you need to put on a rifter for fast tackle and why.
First what skills do I need to train to use a rifter effectively. EVE-Mon is a great tool but for newbs, they won’t understand the reasons why they are skilling up certain things. We need to fix a training hole. How to skill for certain ships and or modules.

I think CCP needs to start a new level of training for the EVE life. Below is definitely not a full list of items to consider for training but is an example

  1. 1. Training/skilling
  2. a. The use of implants
    b. How to train for certain ships
    c. How to train for certain modules
    d. What to train first the ship or the modules.
    2. Ship types and ships
    a. Ship uses
    b. Using modules on ships
    i. Why all the different types of modules that do the same thing
    ii. CPU and Powergrid usage
    iii. Fitting a ship
    3. High sec game mechanics.
    a. Ratting
    b. Mining
    c. What not to do when traveling through High Sec
    d. I’m being attacked, now what.
    4. Low sec mechanics.
    5. Null sec mechanics.
    a. Pos interaction
    i. Jump Bridges
    ii. POS Guns
    b. PVP
    i. 1v1
    ii. Fleet operations
iii. Oh crap that’s a big ship
    6. WormHole mechanics.

Please if you have any ideas include it in this list. Feel free to change if needed.

Please no flames. I think this could be a good tool for new pilots to use if all piots were to help create it. Think of it as a WIKI.

Hi Hung TuLo

The New Player Experience page on the evelopedia does cover a few of the topics you've listed, but if you feel you have something useful to add, feel free to create a new page as already suggested.

EVE Online is a very complex game, so even though there's already thousands of articles on the Evelopedia, I'm sure you might have something interesting to add.

If you have any questions or concerns about the evelopedia, feel free to contact the ISD Evelopedia admins at evelopedia@isd.eve-online.com
Player feedback is always appriciated.

Recently we've also tried improving the new player experience with the Introduction of ISD Seminars, where we also cover some of the topics you've listed.
Your list is definitely good inspiration for us, of topics to cover in future seminars

Great idea but the wiki does have a bunch of that information. What needs to happen is explain WHY things need to occur and why people use them in fleets. Why do people fit ships that way? Why do people use fast ships to point and not bigger ships? How do you go pirate? What careers can you do in EVE? What does X and Y mean? etc...

I mean I just searched a bunch of what you said in that layout there and a lot of it is out there. Just got to look for it. Links below.

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Rookie_Help_Channel_FAQ (Rookie FAQ)
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Ships (Ship Usage)
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Warp_Core_Stabilizer_I ( warp Core stabs)
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Warp_strength ( Mechanics behind warp scrams)
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Warp_scrambled (More Mechanics)
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Skill_training ( Skill training)
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Mining_guide (Mining guide Level Basic)
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Advanced_mining ( advanced guide)
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Fitting_ships (How to fit your ships deals with CPU/Powergrid here as well)
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Piracy_guide( Arrrrrrrr pirates life for me)
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Ratting_tactics (Rats)

So just getting the links out there. Took me about 5 minutes to find all of that information(not read it but you get my point)

Also I would disagree with some of your points like null sec mechanics. Rookie pilots tend to stay in Empire for awhile so they can generate isk and get use to the game. Null Sec mechanics can be easily explained by pilots who are out there in Null Sec. A lot of this game is by learning from the more experienced pilots explaining what is going on as not everything can be explained by reading a wiki page.

Also I agree with Xercodo and make a page if you want to make an answer page for rookies. Kinda sounds like something IVY is doing and the volunteer group is doing with both groups doing seminars/lectures/whatever they are doing.

Ok, cool.

I'm not going to step all over other folks that are working on something like this already. I appreaciate the comments. I really didnt think to do a search. sorry, :) wasnt thinking.

Maybe your list of links should be in a sticky mate.

The hardest thing about this is striking a balance between information availability and information searchability.

The more information out there, the harder it is to find any of it. In the end, the best thing to do is ask, since human brains perform the task of information indexing and retrieval far more efficiently then computers.

There are things like Eve University for training new pilots.

I'm actually launching a new player corp as well. Less involved than Eve Uni, but set up to teach new pilots all of the things you have mentioned. I'll also give them basic skillbooks and ships and then help them to find their long term corp home.

You can check out more info on what I'm looking to do:

Hello Hung TuLo,

Thanks for the suggestion! The sticky at the top of this forum section already has a number of useful links; I've just added a few more.

As usual, all pilots are welcome to contribute to the EVElopedia, especially to the list of useful threads for new citizens.

As long as we're talking here ...

One thing the wiki could use ... which most wiki's do not have ... is some kind of a Table of Contents or at least an Index.

It works fine if you know what to search on ... but *shrug* sometimes if you're not searching on the right term or phrase it can be a problem.

Just a list of Topic Titles would help immensely.

At one point in time - there was a list of topics for EVE help ... which is still out there somewhere but I"m under the impression that that particular list has been abandoned as part of the old pre-wiki system.

If there is such a list of Topic Titles for the Wiki I must have missed it and would appreciate a link if someone has one.
