To Implant or Not To Implant

I was wondering if any PvP pilots developed characters that do not use implants simply to reduce the pain of getting podded and to reduce the ISK lost when getting out of the clone vat and back into a ship.

This is NOT an NPC corp forum alt, this is my main. I will join a corp in a few months after I have more skill points.

Nope that's what jump clones are for.

No, any real PVP player uses Snakes, Crystals or Slaves. If you can't afford that, you're not a PvPer - you're a goddamn carebear noob who just decided to shoot people.

What a few pvp pilots do is plug in a couple of +2 or +3s, one for the two attributes they're currently training, so if they're focussing on per/will skills, those will be the two implants they'll use. Then it's not a great loss if they get podded.

Well I'm NPC corp for the moment I am just coming back to Eve. I left in 08' but I guess the game didn't leave me. I think this time around I want to focus on PvP more. I will get in a corp in a few months after I have put on a few more skill points and have done some corp research. Picking the right corp is almost as important as picking the right skills.

In null, nearly everyone has empty jump clones for PvP - bubbles pretty much guarantee you'll be podded if you're popped. I sometimes PvP on my training clone, but empty clones are the norm.

In lowsec it is still smarter to PvP in an empty clone because an interceptor or heavily seboed ship can catch your pod, but its less of a necessity.

I'm just a carebear noob that decided to shoot people and uses 2x Limiteds for the skills I train, because they are (pretty much) free and I am cheap as hell. So are lives in null and lowsec. I don't have much appetite for mission grind or a JC in null, so I jack in a cheap one at times. I'm still learning a lot about pvp and getting podded from time to time is part of the process. I just don't care that much about training times, the benefits of those implants do not outweight the benefits of being able to learn (read: die) a lot.

Just use +2s/+3s, and only have the attribute implants for the skill/skill group you are presently training.


There's no reason not to use implants, because you can get significant benefit from only a very marginal cost.

I used to keep a jump clone with learning implants for when I was away from EVE, and my head empty of implants due to living in nullsec. However, some years ago I stopped training skills so I just don't care anymore. Smile

Nope. Use jump clones and minimise what you plug in and tailor them to common attribute combinations in your skill plan. I like to use +3s but then again losing two +4s isnt so bad either or even a +4 for the primary attribute and +3 for your secondary. Then again having a full set in one clone and an empty clone is also popular but youre stuck playing under timers that way. Better to just suck it up and risk a minimised loss.

So what I'm getting here is the implants are for more aiding in skill learning and not really used to improve PVP.

If by "more for aiding in skill learning" you mean "giving bonuses of, for example, 6% faster RoF, 6% more damage, 32% more armor hp, and 6% more capacitor all at once, for a typical Slave setup", then yes.

Ooh pvp implants. The only ones I really ever use are power grid modifiers and shield emmission ones. The cheap 1mil a pieve ones. Id say others are pretty worth it though.

I'm guilty of occasionally using skill hardwirings, but usually only 2 or 3, and rarely (if ever) when going into a fleet fight.

Learning implants obviously help with skill training, Skill Hardwires are the implants that give various bonuses, again it's a case of how much you can afford to lose, if anything. You can get some implants "for free" in mission loot. I put the for free in speech marks as you have to consider the opportunity cost, or what you'd get for their current market worth if you sold them.

I use implants. Possibly losing them is part of PvP. Ships die, pods explode, ISK is gained to replace loss and it all starts again.

I'm not going to short change my character of implants anymore then I'd gimp my ship of a proper fit.

I'll use them if a fit requires them, but most low cost hardwirings (less than 20mill).

They serve zero purpose and are of equal value (zero) when pvping blobs.

just prevent you wanting to be podded and thus back sooner into the fight.
