Because for some reason people often get extremely mad when you kill their pod, even if there wasn't much in it as far as implants.

One may do more damage with a podkill than the ship kill.

Plus its kind of fun

People do it as a public service.

To a Freighter pilot, pods ae just another navigational hazard that needs to be cleared from our path.

Thank you, good people of New Eden, thank you.

if I'm in null I'm probably a long way from home and I DEMAND the pod express home, that BS I have kill myself in order to FEDEX myself.

When I roam to null, I also request to be podded out when my ship inevitably explodes. 30j in a pod is TEDIOUS, don't you know? I feel I'm doing my target a service.
Also, corpses.
OK, mostly corpses. You should see my hanger tab in my POS...

Nah, just trolls.

Trolls and naive bears.

Eve is about the journey.  If you are so focused on making money, that you insist on having the tools to make it be made as autonomous and easy as possible, then you are never going to have as much fun as I will.

Because pod killing someone can sometimes cost them more than losing their ship did.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying but, when someone's pod killed the station they end up in might be no where near you.

As for surviving they usually hit soft targets anyway (if high-sec) so there's not much risk to them.

I kill pods because Kevin McCarthy showed me they were dangerous!

I have a shady contact who pays good ISK for fresh corpses. Bonus pay if female.

How else would I collect corpses?

Just roll up another alt. In this game, that will net you far more gains than blowing something up with any "relative wealth" adjustments.

As to the OP:

3 primary reasons:

1) Tactical. It removes "eyes" from an area and such.

2) Killmail score keepers (the KB huggers as they are known).

3) Grief - the griefer mindset. The more they can cause misery/grief to others, the happier they are.

Other rare reasons -
-- bounties on players are paid on pod-kills, not ship kills.
-- AFK pilot - warn; then pop the ship, warn again; then pop the pod to remove a "freebie kill" from opponents during war or PvP roams (falls under #1 above but not thought of as such by many).

Practical Reason: Force off field, material denial (kill the pod, kill the imps on the pod), disproves any doubts that you have an agressive mentallity (i.e., you'ld be willing to kill a pod rather than showing mercy and letting him go)

Non-Practical Reason: Add insult to injury

To sum it up, like George Carlin once said, "Because they're pests...and it's fun!"Twisted

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

... because the owner of the pod just tried to kill me.
