New skill Grand Admiral?

I am just thinking and wanted to see what people would think about this skill.

Basically this skill would allow you to oversee 1 fleet per lvl to a maximum of 5. This person would be looking more at the solar system map then at the actual screen and be able to coordinate fleets on where they need to go and what not.

His fleets would be shown moving around the solar system map in real time but the enemy ships and structures would only be updated via scan probes.

Maybe this would also require a new ship class that had bonuses to combat probes and all that info in put onto the solar system map so he can relay this info for the fleet. Just some thoughts. Have fun

This might need to go to F&I but just wanted to put it here first

With 11 pilots per squad, and 5 sqauds per wing, and 5 wings per FC that is 256 pilots.

Having 5 FC's per "Whatever" is 1281 pilots.

Firstly, how often is that really needed?

Secondly wont this just encourage people like the CFC and the HBC to "blob" people even more then we already do? At the moment to field 500 drakes takes some level of competence. Having everyone anchor up on one guy and "whatever" warp 500 guys to one location and let loose guns is a bad idea.

You have clearly never fc'd a huge fight...

But I do think that fleet size should be increased.

256 was set a while back as the upper limit. Would be convenient sometimes to be able to field more than that in a single fleet.

That would require a massive re-write of all the fleet mechanics I'm assuming. For example even if you can "warp to" this Admiral or whatever it means you can have 1200+ people warp at 0 to the same point at the same time.

I think the idea of some sort of in game support to let someone watch fleet positions on the solar system map is a good idea, but how useful is this if you can't see the enemy fleets?

More interesting would be some sort of probing system that lets several scouts/probes feed back the positions of ships in real time on the solar system map, as that way you could blind the enemy "admiral" or whatever by killing off the scouts.

Tbh though we seem to be fine fielding 900 people already :D

In my idea you would not be able to control the 5 fleets you would just be able to see them Via the map real time. You would also fit a scan probe launcher and possibly a new scan prob that relays FOF ID or something so you can give orders over coms to your FC's for example Bombers warp to sun the enemy is warping in that direction. There was a video a while ago with a tactical map that showed fights ragging in a solar system I would like to see that implemented. I agree that it probably would take a lot of code but I think it is something that going forward this game would benefit from.

I was hoping for people to help build on this idea I know what I have purposed is not perfect but If CCP would allow people with this skill to see colors on the solar system map say at 10 AU a lvl with lvl 5 unlocking the entire solar system it might not be as hard to get in sooner then later.

I just got a mental image of taking Fleet Commander to lvl VI or VII for more wings...

So true. I guess the idea I have in my head is not coming across as well as I would have hoped. Oh well maybe with the new POS's we can have something like a forward command module that will have addition info displayed on the solar system map.

Yeah it sounds good in theory, but I think one of the problems would come from knowing the enemy location.

If you have two 700 man fleets and both know everyone's positions one of two things are going to happen:

1) It becomes a slugfest as people warp to each other and duke it out, winning by simply piling more people in.

2) no-one engages as they constantly keep away from the enemy until the moment is right, but thats what the enemy are doing too.

There was a video that the devs I think put out that had a cool tactical map with red and blue markers showing where the fleets were and what was going on. That is the idea behind this. For the life of me I can not find that video at the moment anyone else have the link.
