Ok im new obviously

for the past 4 days ive been doing the tut missions and wow this game is a bit daunting but honestly i love the complex nature see it all started back when i was in college about 2000-2001 anyway i was working at a gamestop and i made a buddy who i was working with at this point in my life i wasnt really a gamer more a womanizing party boy in Party school

anyway my friend introduced me to my first MMO and i was hooked it was called lineage II im sure some of you know the game it was intensly hard but i loved it till the dang bots took over then i left not to return to mmos for a bit

being a huge warcraft 1 and 2 lover (probably the only game i did play when younger) WOW came out about then and i jumped on the band wagon and for awhile everything was great the game seemed 10000000% easier than Lineage II but alas i wasnt happy the crowd it attracted didnt do it for me i was tired of playing a cartoon (no offence to any WOW player i understand the game completly its just not for me)

then i tried out a miriad of mmos including: SWOG, Planetside, Everquest 2, AOC, and Guild wars

i know all the MMO's i mentioned are great games but again they lacked the complexity i didnt know i was searching for until i stumbled upon EVE i had always heard of this game but for some reason my brain couldnt grasp the ok there are no levels per say in this game idea

i had always measured my value in that oh im now level 50 or 55 or whatever never did i realize there was more if i had just opened my eyes

but i digress being a 4 day newb and having a very basic understanding of the game and its mechanics (i say basic because there is oh so much more to learn)

I can finally say that i think i may have found my MMO i know you guys are hardcore and it will be awhile before im anybody and i know the game has a ridiculous learning curve but for some reason all of it appeals to me i had desperatly wished SWOG had done something similar to this

i do have a suggestion i think there should be a career called mentorship and newbs can become apprentices maybe the mentor can earn something for teaching a newb this would keep the LEARNING WALL as ive heard it referred to from being so challanging and since the game focuses so heavily on player run corps good opportunity to mold and shap the newb to something beneficiasl for the corp

companys do it in real life heck thats my job i recruit new college grads who dont have habits from other companys put them in our training program and voila 3 years we have exactly what we need

Right click the little chat icon on windiw, it will open options for premade channels, in the little box type channel you want, click and new window opens.

I'm a nerd, you can check my stats!! Skilling Int/Mem at 45 sp per minute is how I mack!     I'm like a lapdog, all bark no bite.

In EVE, we want as little automated systems.
We have mentors. we have entire alliances dedicated to training people.
We don't need any other perk than what we already have.

please don't suggest things before you actually see how the game works.

especially coming from your history.

and this is not said in a rude way.

One more thing, please feel free to ignore it!!

If you plan to stay and want to learn the ins and outs, put in an app for Eve University. I did not take the advise when offered and made a lot of bone headed moves. They have quite a few great things for the new pilot!!

Well see the next thing that you'll have to come to terms with besides the "no levels" thing is that there are no official careers at all either. No tag that you can read on a person that tells you what they do.

Everything everyone does in this game that they consider to be part of their career is simply them going and doing it.

Everything you see and do revolves around the meta game and usually rationalization for doing things is "because I can". Everyone has their own goals and methods for reaching them and so should you.

At the same time there are also no limits on which goals you are able to have. There is no being left out of something because you are stuck to a class, every character ever created since EVE started in 2003 is equally as capable as everyone else including you. There are no race restrictions and no hard cut classes.

Really good example of that is a guy that mines in a battleship cause he just needs a bit of ore cause he doesn't wanna buy a barge or cause he simply cant fly one. And on the other hand the sneaky bugger that flies a mining barge fitted for PVP, using the connotation that mining barges are weak and defenseless to his advantage, using himself as bait.

P.S. I certainly wouldn't mind there being an in-game mechanic regarding mentoring though :D

Also don't apologize.

Nobody is your friend here, everyone will stab you in the back for a nickel. If you are ever getting a decent price or a deal its a scam.
Trust nobody (including me)

If you seem weak, you will be taken advantage of.

Just gotta know when and where to give in.

:3

boo in-game mentor mechanic

that is just silly and completely against the nature of EVE.

thanks robert that makes sense and btw im not hung up on the level thing i just thought i was its the only way to judge in other mmos how well your doing i mean i know there are other ways but its the quickest way of getting gratification in this game i get gratification when i figure out how to mine or combat a ship

jim i think what you stated illistrates how difficult this game is when im a 4 day newb and advice given is dont trust anyone but then im given advice to join eve university

so basically if i listen to jim im supposed to write off what robert said if i listen to robert than jim sorry buddy

i think for a newb everyone should be helpful i dont think adding players to the game is going to make anyone experience less than because i think the difficulty curve will naturally knock out the idiots 95% of the time and as im discovering the player base will do the rest

Yeah pretty much.

A lot of people like helping the newbs cause they know how crazy EVE is how daunting it was when they started. Others will pretend to help people cause they know what they can get away with when they got a gullible newb around their finger.

For instance, there are a few cases of a guy that recruits a bunch of newbs into a corp and then beats the crap out of all of them cause members of a player corp are allowed to fire on each other without CONCORD intervening.

I for one, am one of the good guys, as the email from the dev in my bio page should have shown :D

not a bad guy

join EVE uni, they are great...they were one of the mentoring programs we have in place.

RvB (red vs blue) is also a good place to start if you wanted to focus on PvP more.

This is an instance when you just have to trust someone. Like in rl, you know to not trust a salesman

I think Jim means in game!! :) The forums are less stressful and for the most part you can trust the advice. In game is another thing, if it seems to easy, it is because you are being set up. Jim is just saying, make damn sure you know the people in game offering the easy ISK. ISK unless you get lucky and get some rich toon quitting and offering free isk, *it does happen* has to be earned, be weary.

There are a lot of people who would love to teach you how harsh the EVE universe is, and it is harsh.

Also, when you get killed by another player, grin and bear it, it shows you have class, and can roll withe punches. And yes, you will get killed and podded, harsh world!!

Come meet me and I'll protect you on your first venture into low.

j/k

but honestly the best way I learned from the game was to sit back and observe, that doesn't mean not being hands on...but just pay close attention. Everything you need to know is always right in front of you, just look for it.

Xer, your bio link does work on EVE gate. The only odd thing is that the brackets are the link and the text itself isn't linked.
