I do appologize, for once again I come with a question for the collective. A plea. Humbly asking for help as I want to go - - to the place we all love to hate and hate to love - to space. Alas, Concord like powers, powers beyond my reproach, have locked me out as if my hold was full of illegal boosters.

So, I am stuck in the hospital (and will remain herer for a good while longer) due to a nasty bacterial infection in my left leg (med. term is erysipel, in case you are curious). Thank God I finally have internet access, but unfortunately the hospital firewall prevents me from accessing EvE...

Does anyone have instructions (step by step, easy to understand would help) on how to work around this? Right now, when starting the launcher i get the message "unable to apply patch" (after downloading it).

All help would be very much appreciated!!!

if you've downloaded the patch, and can't use it ... there's something else amiss.

Try the repair tool (%Program Files%\CCP\EVE\repair.exe) and it should be able to fix whatever's broken and allow you to play.

As above, it really doesn't sound like a firewall problem if you were already able to download the patch. Give the repair tool a shot.

Try disabling your firewall, sometimes windows like to get all kungfu ninja assualt mode and forget that you actually requested connections from a reputable program.

You can enable and disable it in the security center.

Let us know how it goes. :)

Thank you both for the reply! I followed your advise, but unfortunately it did not remedy the issue. Same messages. From experience with ALL other games, i really think firewall issues are behind this.

No dice either Cry

After the initial attempt, EvE tells me that it will try again with raised security clearance, i have to click that CCP is indeed a trusted source and then still no go. Similar things with pretty much all other online games. Movies or live feeds are no problem (so not a problem with data amount or bandwidth).

The port you need is 26000 I believe, if they ask.

As an IT security guy, odds are really good its either a firewall or a content filter.

As for work arounds, there aren't any "good ones"... Hospitals are required to filter content and protect certain areas of their network due to federal regulation H.I.P.A.

You can always contact them and ask nicely.... i'm pretty good about doing the same for people when I can. You may be asked to jump a few hoops, and you may also just flat out be told no.

If you have a friend with a "mobile hot-spot" that runs off cell service, thats really your best option.

I get similar messages at work cause I have to run through a proxy...

My workaround is to have Safari (yes I play on my mac) running in the background and go through the proxy first.
Also I find it helps to have Facebook or something that updates regularly in the background cause I've been dropped out due to inactivity despite running Eve...

Maybe try sending laptop (?) out of hospital with a friend to patch. I'm assuming you haven't got past the patch to see if the game itself will run?

Great idea!!! Patch worked. BUT can't connect (server shows up, but when i try connecting i get the message " can't find server"...

Oh well. Also, being in Austria and knowing the generally humorless and bureaucratic nature of our officials... then I have very little hope that my plea to the IT guys will bear any fruit. After all, the most common word, heard after any sort of request is a resounding "IMPOSSIBLE!!!"

Theres something called Tunneling. I dont know how it works. But you should look it up on the mac forums. Have you tried that?
