EvE's top 47 ISK owners - What do they do in real life?

That list is a crock I recall CCP Diagoras in his tweets (or was it Dr E? ) mentioned that there are a few trillionares in Eve, that list stated the richest has ~250 billion which is chicken feed to TECH rich CFC directors.
The real way to tell that it isn't accurate is that none of the space rich CSM7 is on it Lol

What do they do in RL? They live in basements of course Blink

The thing is, that's only a fraction of people's total wealth. Hell, by that list I'm the richest person in Eve.

According to your list, I would qualify as "mega rich" in Eve. I'm a Software Architect in Data Warehousing / Game Analytics. So it's more like I'm applying the knowledge from Eve to real life. :)

Ed: Also, I want to echo the sentiment that real wealth is measured in assets. Having 20B laying around is a sure sign that I'm not investing my ISK as I should. But also, it can be a ***** to invest all your ISK.

I will give you a hint. Anyone in RL that is rich beyond belief is too busy making real wealth to play this game.

So to answer your question these are all average joe's.

If I registered my main on that site, he would probably rank within the top 50.

Real life knowledge used to make all my isk....... probably not. I am a business major but I didn't use that knowledge to earn all my ISK via trading (ironic, isn't it?). I just learned the mechanics, was persistent and patient.

I started off the game with a gift of 50 million ISK, and never thought I'd make it big. Never thought I'd throw around 50 million without giving it a second thought, lolol.

I think that guy netted around 800 billion ISK, plus four or five Titan BPOs worth around 50 billion each, so easily over 1 trillion.

You would be surprised who counts themselves as capsuleers... there are some rather famous and/or well-off people who play.

That, tbh is not a lot of ISK even for the guy ranking #1 on the list. I fully agree with the rest here that this list excludes a large number of players

Assets play a huge role in total value. Not only that, but I'm ranked 50 on this list and I know there's a TON of people higher than me. This is just those who decided to put their APIs on EvE-Board.

As for profession? I teach Social Studies (History, Civics etc). I don't think that's going to give me any sort of boost.

Only 6,000 people on that list. EVE has 300,000 subscribers at least. If I had the tools to easily analyse the data there statistically I could give you a rough estimate of the real numbers.

I think I would say that it's all common sense.

First, look how long most of them have been playing. The guy in number one is 6 years old.

Then, don't spend more than you make.

Don't fly what you can't afford to replace.
double that, don't fly what you can't replace two times over.

If you sell stuff, sell it for more than mineral costs. If you farmed that stuff, sell if for less then everyone else.

If you can't mine 250 billion in six years, I have to wonder how in the hell you're able to use a mouse and keyboard. You can mine with the exact same fitted ship for 6 years. If you can't reach 9 figures in that amount of time mining, you've got to be the dumbest soul on the planet.

If you can't get into the hundreds of billions in 6 years of EVE, you're doing something wrong, or you don't care.

I'd be more impressed if I saw someone with 200 billion, that wasn't 6 years old, and didn't get it selling PLEX.

If I had started doing what I'm doing now, 6 years ago, I'd be a trillionaire in EVE today.

You don't need to be very smart to make that much ISK in EVE. It's not like there's an overwhelming number of ISK sinks

The list is only for people who have registered.

I know 2 people who are worth over 1 Trillion ISK.

It is now much more difficult to make mega sums, as most came from game mechanics. i.e. Amongst the 300K player base there were people who were as smart/smarter than the developers and found their mistakes and exploited them.

examples:

escrow camping
public and private auctions
early salvage (which had no use in game, and smart people horded until a patch found a use and prices spiked. Bought for 10 ISK and sold for 10,000 per item)
original T2 BPO's
Ship Insurance
moon minerals
patch changes


CCP are like the tax man, always trying to close the loop holes. Look at the first person on the list (Akita T), made most of their cash from the changes in moon minerals and patch changes.




p.s TITANS 4U, didn't make much cash but walked off with about 4-6 Titan BPO's and some Titan BPC's.

Most who are rich beyond belief don't actually do much of anything anymore. Since after you reach a certain point most of your income will come from investments. Which might I add is usually handled by someone else

edit: The page finally loaded, and 260bn is far less then the top should be at. The top I would wage to be in the 1tn to 1.2tn range.
This would ofc depend on liquidity of their assets and if they even bother keeping all their isk on 1 character.

I'm actually 51 on that list.

As for what I do, I'm a freelancer by trade - which doesn't particularly do much for me in game.

Unless any corp or alliance is looking to start doing RL events and needs a skilled tech :)


However, it's worth noting that that's just eveboards list, how that compares to people in game is entirely a different matter.
