Yesterday I made a series of noob mistakes moving gear in high sec. My main is in the Minmatar Militia and the previous day was pay day. Tier 5 hit and loads of shiney stuff was in my hanger at Abudban. I brought an alt, this char, over to move some of that stuff, just a couple of jumps to a 0.5 system where my -3.7 main could access it. Two jumps through backwater hi sec systems using an alt in a neutral corp that wasn't war decced. What could possibly go wrong?

First of all I didn't bother setting up an insta-out, second I needed to move 12 Fleet Stabbers and a load of faction ammo. But instead of spreading it out, I shoved all the ammo in the first Bestower load with two of the SFIs, total value including Bestower 249M. I undock, didn't even bother to look at what was outside, just selected the out gate and hit jump to. Then turned back to my other account on my second screen.

I hear the explosion and turn back to find my pod just going to warp. The guy must have fired on the last possible server tick.

Initially I was outraged. How dare he, the scumbag! But my anger faded as I realised the chain of stupid mistakes I'd made. Hell I hadn't even turned the hardener on. It was an EM Hardener and he'd fired EMP ammunition. It might not have saved me, but it certainly didn't while switched off. The only consellation was that only 20M loot dropped. His ship cost him 70M and I now know that he used a largely T2 fit costing around another 45M, assuming half that survived he would have still ended up around 70M out of pocket. Small comfort.

I sent an EMail to the guy accepting responsibility for the loss and thanking him for the lesson taught. It could have been a lot worse. Then I went to Rens and brought another Bestower, intending this time to move the rest of my stuff more carefully. All the time though I was pondering how to get even. I had kill rights on the guy. I could wait 3 weeks then use a locater agent and hunt him down on another alt. Plan my attack carefully. Maybe join his corp with my main and destroy it from within. Or I could just write it off to experience and move on.

I returned to Abudban and docked up. Undocked a Slasher to make the insta-out bookmark that I should have had all along. There 30 km off the undock was the same guy in another Tornado waiting for his next victim. I couldn't believe it, he didn't even have negative sec status, he was just a part time suicide ganker and a bad one. He didn't know that you should be sat on the back side of the station, 30Km off the undock but still within docking range. Instead he was sat 30km in front of the undock and 28Km outside docking range. Furthermore he only had eyes for haulers, wasn't paying any attention to anything else.

I didn't have any guns on my Slasher. So I docked up, then pod ran back to Rens and fitted up a Rifter with dual Webs and scram, T2 150mm Autocannons and a T1 Rocket launcher. I didn't have great skills and wasn't sure how long it would take, so I half filled the cargo bay with faction ammo. I redocked at Abudban and immediately undocked, my undock trajectory took me within 3000m of him and he just sat there. I was looking around, a Falcon was nearby, but that couldn't interfer with me. The only thing that could save him was neutral logi, but no sign of that and no danger to me anyway.

It took 30 volleys from my Autocannons, 90 rounds of Republic fleet Phased Plasma and 25 Caldari Navy Scourge Rockets. It took about 80 seconds, for the first 30 he did nothing, probably expecting Concord to arrive and save him. Then he realised who I was and the horror that I had kill rights on him. He began firing but missed everytime. I was orbiting at 500M by then with two webs and a scram on him, there was no way he was going to reach docking range.

He got his pod out as soon as he popped. I wasn't going to shoot that as that would have got me Concorded, although I did consider it briefly. He dropped 23M worth of loot, which I picked up after making a second trip to empty my cargo hold. Total net loss to me was about 226M, Total net loss to him was around 188M for the two Tornados assuming he scooped his and my loot on the first engagement.

So not a great exchange for me, but ultimately I enjoyed the enchange and learnt a lot from it. He on the otherhand I spotted later that day outside Rens. He was in a Tornado, sat 30 Kms in front of the undock, 28 Kms outside docking range. Sadly my kills rights were gone by then.

Waow an interesting reading ;)
So this means if you're attacked you can still dock? It is just if YOU attack someone that you cannot dock? You say he shoot you back in his tornado, but that also means no way he can dock, isn't it? Even if he was near docking range...

I hate people who suicide kill you... To me concord should pod them as well ;)

He can't gank someone and immediately dock up. But on the second encounter after his GCC had expired and when I attacked him, if he'd been in docking range he could have simply docked up, provided he didn't aggress me back. I've seen people do this at Jita, they sit at the back of the station in docking range, but far enough away from their victims on the undock so that tracking isn't an issue.

Possibly due to the fact that he also appeared to be pretty much out of ammo?

They never fit more than a volley, perhaps a different flavor to adjust, it's not worth wasting ammos, sentries don't give time to shoot a second one, but it's not like the nado could have tracked a rifter orbiting @ 500m anyway.
